Homeowners insurance policies can discriminate against them too.

Thanks to movies and such, they have gotten a horrible rep. I have heard of a few times where a person was attacked by a dog, and in none of the cases was the dog a pit bull. Yet, they get all the bad press.

My friend got one when his son turned one year old. They grew up together. That dog was the best. He was very friendly to people, loved playing with other dogs, and was VERY protective of his little friend. They were inseparable for a long time. The dog finally passed when the boy was 15. I told him that he should always remember that his dog was the greatest and that he is always watching over him, even though he is not physically here.

Two months later, he was almost chased by a bear in the woods, but for some reason, the bear suddenly stopped approaching and ran off like he was being pursued by a dog. There was nothing else in the woods at the time that he could see or hear.

So, yes, great breed. Just one that got 'Hollywooded' into notoriety.
