Kent Ohio ha several pizza options; national chains, regional chains and independent. The best national chain, in my estimation, is Marco's Pizza. ( https://www.marcos.com/menu/ ) Although it may not have the name recognition as some, I believe it has a higher quality standard (given that, as a national franchise chain, this is partially subject to local management!) and they have some interesting - and tasty! - topping options.
A regional chain I like is Hungry Howies. ( https://www.hungryhowies.com/ ) Again, pretty high in quality and In the many years of ordering there I can recall only a couple mis-makes. Their hallmark is their wide selections of crust toppers.
For independents, nobody tops Lucci's Place! ( https://www.luccisplace.com/ ) Literally. They've won best pizza in Portage County every year since they opened. I am partial to a NY style, hand tossed (dough) pizza and this is as authentic a NY style pizza as you are likely to find outside the Big Apple. The owner spent several years working in NYC before opening one location here. Why here? To quote Dr. Seuss, "I don't know, go ask your Mother!"
I'd be interested how the pizza situation in your town or area stands. Please include links in your replies, I love investigating pizza places online that I will likely never be able to visit in person.

(39,638 posts)A few years ago we had one here in Huntsville, but no more. It may have been Covid19 that did them in.
Garlic-butter-poppyseed crust on a veggie deluxe. SOOOOO satisfying.
Locally, Mellow Mushroom is my favorite. I've lived in several different places that had a MM and each one is very different; v. little standard about decor, etc. But the pizza, soft pretzels, appetizers and hoagies are great. And they give you a treat on your birthday!

(1,083 posts)Unique. Akin to the New Haven style. A first for me, a pizza with no mozz or prov, only Romano and green peppers.

(1,083 posts)Many Italian restaurants have pizza on the menu. My experience is it is there as an after thought, not really a featured dish.

(22,944 posts)Pizza Hut, Domino's, and Papa John's.
Regional Chains in NYC:
Joe's Pizza, Patsy's Pizzeria, John's of Bleecker Street, and Lombardi's, each offering a distinct New York-style pizza experience. Other notable regional chains include Roberta's (Brooklyn), known for its wood-fired pizzas, and Prince Street Pizza, which is famous for its square Sicilian slices. From AI.
Julia's, and L' Industrial are in Brooklyn.
Been to a few of these over the decades.
Local Chain Famiglia has been good for years. Haven't been recently bc not around the areas they're in.
I have a nice independent store 3 blocks away. Very good white pizza.
We must have thousands of pizza stores; most independent. Lucky us!
I didn't know 😄 what "NY style" pizza was/is. Crispy edge crust, but thin so it's foldable in the middle.

(1,083 posts)- but, as you have shown, a city as large as NYC has a multiplicity of styles of pizza. Also, I believe, NYC and the boroughs have concentrations of ethnic populations from around the world. Many of these have their own unique variations of what a pizza is. Feeling adventurous? Take a little road trip around the world of NYC. As an aside: when I served in the USN, native NYCers invariably referred to the Big Apple as "The World". As in, "I can't wait for my enlistment to be up and get back to the World."
