Back in 2007, we went to an adoption fair for German shepherds and, on the spur of the moment, agreed to keep a very shy, skinny German shepherd named “Twiggy” (because she was so skinny her ribs showed through) over the weekend until she could go to her foster in Napa.

Well, we couldn’t give her up. We changed her name to Heidi and she blossomed into such a beautiful dog that she got compliments whenever we went out with her. We lost her in 2020 at the height of the pandemic at the age of 15. She was a big challenge: dog reactive, reactive to most humans, especially men, health issues, etc., but keeping her was the best decision we ever made and we still really miss her.
