Yes. And the instruction was sometimes - 86 it from the menu. So it was crossed off the menu board. yellow dahlia May 17 #6

It always referred to throwing out an unruly barfly or other undesirable individual from a drinking establishment. I never heard their elaborate, embellished ‘mob’ version of its meaning. If anyone should know mob lingo, I guess it’s Donny Dollhands.

As a former waiter 86 means you are out of that dish.

It is also used when removing certain items from a dish. Eg: I'll have the salad, but 86 the peppers.

I worked in the restaurant business for many years. But the phrase moved into the vernacular, a bit. For instance one might make a joke about breaking up with a boyfriend and use the term - I 86'ed him.

It is so beyond ridiculous that the RW attack dogs and RWmedia are trying to attribute it to a death threat. I have heard Jessie Watters assert that it is a term used in the military (to kill people). And now the attribution is also to something in the mob lingo...8 feet over and 6 feet under.

Give me a break! (And I am not requesting you break one of limbs.)

He was threatening to shoot them.
Seems like that would follow the same screwy logic Trump is cynically trying to use here.

Twice. And 86 doesn't mean life-threatening, like several folks mentioned.
