(28,284 posts)It always referred to throwing out an unruly barfly or other undesirable individual from a drinking establishment. I never heard their elaborate, embellished mob version of its meaning. If anyone should know mob lingo, I guess its Donny Dollhands.

(2,444 posts)It is also used when removing certain items from a dish. Eg: I'll have the salad, but 86 the peppers.
I worked in the restaurant business for many years. But the phrase moved into the vernacular, a bit. For instance one might make a joke about breaking up with a boyfriend and use the term - I 86'ed him.
It is so beyond ridiculous that the RW attack dogs and RWmedia are trying to attribute it to a death threat. I have heard Jessie Watters assert that it is a term used in the military (to kill people). And now the attribution is also to something in the mob lingo...8 feet over and 6 feet under.
Give me a break! (And I am not requesting you break one of limbs.)
