My first post on D.U. was to ask "What does K & R mean?" Don't see that lately. (Original Post) FadedMullet May 14 OP
Probably because individual posts within a thread can be recommended directly--albeit without a response (even a K&R) hlthe2b May 14 #1

the thread does not get "kicked" to the top of the forum. But, that is likely why.

Long long ago it was frustrating that threads would (and still do) get lots of Recs, post-less, (that don't kick the thread) - such that the thread would continue its downward slide since only a Post kicks it up. Hence, a kickless Rec indicated some kind of (esteem? ) yet no stymying of oblivion.

So it took two - Kick AND a Rec - to show esteem.

*** As for n/t, it's supposed to be courtesy saving time/effort to others that the Message/Body is empty, so its usefulness is in the title/subject/headline of the thread, not in the Body, of it but everything is visible so don't matter anymore.

The follow-up responses to newer posters usually receive 3-5 reply comments as most members choose not to respond. I never see more than 3 responses to my discussions, unless select members staunchly disagree. No disparagement intended, it's just how it is.
