Ouestion about the gesture by an NBA player when called for a foul.

I've seen little kids do that all my life. Did little kids get that from the NBA, or did the NBA get that from little kids?

that the player who committed the foul would raise an arm to, i don’t know, take blame and make it easier for the scorekeeper to see the jersey number or something? I don’t think players do that anymore.
