Steve Schmidt: The quote that kills MAGA

Link: https://steveschmidt.substack.com/p/the-quote-that-kills-maga

Donald Trump finally told the truth.

Not about corruption. Not about the collapsing economy. Not about the incompetence, the theft, the grift, or the staggering failure of his presidency.

He told the truth about contempt:
I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation.

There it is. The mask slipped. The performance ended. The charade collapsed.

No modern American president has ever uttered a sentence so revealing, so politically catastrophic, and so morally grotesque in such plain language.

Richard Nixon hid his contempt. George W. Bush masked his detachment with swagger and slogans. Mitt Romney’s “47 percent” comment destroyed his campaign because it exposed a worldview of indifference toward ordinary people.

Donald Trump’s statement, however, is worse than all of them because it isn’t a gaffe. It isn’t a misstatement. It isn’t an accidental revelation caught on a hot microphone. It’s the governing philosophy of MAGA America.

The president of the United States looks at a country being crushed under inflation, shortages, debt, collapsing purchasing power, rising energy prices and fear about the future and said plainly: I don’t think about you.

Marie-Antoinette at least offered cake.

Trump doesn’t even think about the people standing in the bread line.

The statement should be understood for what it is: a political death sentence for the MAGA Congress because every Republican member of Congress now owns it.

.... That’s the story.

Yes that IS THE STORY but Steve Schmidt has a lot more to say.

Marie Antoinette almost certainly never said "let them eat cake" ("Qu'ils mangent de la brioche&quot . The phrase was attributed to her decades after her death as a symbol of her supposed ignorance and callousness toward the starving French populace, but it first appeared in writing when she was just a child

It's the kind of thing that many on the left as eager to jump on, but is not honest.

Watch the video... Trump was saying that, in negotiating with Iran, his only focus is on stopping them from getting a nuclear weapon. Which, itself, may or may not be entirely true, but it is not unreasonable.

Listen to the actual question the reported asked. Listen to how he answers it. He didn't say "I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation" *ever*. He said he didn't think about it within the context of his negotiations with Iran, where (ostensibly) his only focus is on nuclear weapons.

There is so much about him that is genuinely horrible, I think it is distracting to get into semantic games to make it seem like he's saying something other than what he was saying.

Which, I suppose, doesn't mean it couldn't be effectively used in an ad. But let's not kid ourselves, it would be a deceit.

Make no mistake, I *DO* believe he doesn't care about the financial welfare of average Americans. I just don't think he was "admitting" to that here, as the article puts forth.

When the GOP level of honesty rises out of the sewer and into the frothy top of the cesspool, THEN I may worry about the accuracy of points that paint Trump in a negative light - which I don't see here in the least.

Donald Trump is human waste stuffed into a cheap, badly fitted suit and is unworthy of ANY defense or mitigation, period. He is worse than any possible comparison or hyperbolic statement might try to make him out to be. And after seeing so many times the GOP talking points parroted back about "her e-mails", "Russia Russia Russia", "its fake news", "its a hoax", and "the best maybe of all-time I'm hearing", I have negative fucks to give about the accuracy or legitimacy of ANY dig aimed at the piece of fucking shit infesting the Oval office while decimating the American population and denigrating our national symbols.

...and you end up repeating them, then you can lose credibility when talking about him with anyone who may not entirely share your views. Which is a shame since there is so much legitimately awful stuff you can say about him.

He is forbidden to run again by the Constitution, and after the mid-terms in November, his sole purpose in life will be to avoid dying as long as he can evade the reaper. I do not give any fucks about the opinions of ANYONE who voted for, supported or abides the presence, antics or histrionics of that worthless sack of rotting flesh. I literally want nothing to do with them ever again. If that means a dissolution of the union, I find that outcome preferrable to worrying about losing credibility or providing offense to Trump or his personal flying monkeys.

But aside from that, have a pleasant day and "thank you for your attention to this matter"...

It will not, because it isn't what he says it is.

And if people try to convince MAGA folk of this take on it, they'll just see it as libs twisting the truth. And they'll be right.

Which means that his saying things like it's a "death sentence for the MAGA Congress because every Republican member of Congress now owns it" is just red meat click bait for the left.

What trickery are they pulling when they relocate ANYWHERE? Are they able to live in these countries, yet leave their money elsewhere? Untaxed? There seem to be many tricks enjoyed by the very wealthy that the average person will never know. OTH, there are many countries {Great Britain?} which are not so popular due to their tax systems. I give up on understanding, which I guess is the point.

as he boarded Marine 1 for the last time. 25% still loved Dubya after Katrina and the financial meltdown. If you think you're going to get 99% or even 80% of humans to agree on anything, even anything fucking obvious, you're going to be very disappointed. But, electoral landslides aren't based on that. They're based on the margins. 5 to 10 percentage point shifts. And this one could be crushing. As though $5 gas, Americans gunned down by ICE, grocery prices through the roof and another forever war weren't enough for incumbent Republicans, now Donnie revealed in very basic, easy to understand terms, he doesn't give a shit. And Congressional Republicans are stuck trying to spin and defend that.

free of denigration by the new rich plutocrats trump, musk, zuckerberg, bezos, cook, gates, etc., they’d have to tear themselves away from 50 years of hearing that their poor financial plight in life was because god ordained them to eat the worms off the cake that the rich deemed them worthy of indulging.

stealing all those fruit pickin’ and janitorial jobs so many MAGAS love so much.
It’s the same old Fuck-‘em-and-Forget-‘em bullshit since Money was invented.
They would literally pay you NOTHING if they could. In fact, some people ARE payed nothing. It’s called “internship”, while others are forced to pay for interviews and work on peon wages called “probation”, because it’s a hard world out there if you don’t have clout, and you can’t afford to take you money and run to where they kiss
your ass for being.,. Rich.
So you got your diploma from “Suxta B U”.
Now you can be replaced by AI or a robot and your diploma will only wipe your ass once.
Oh, yeah you’re also supposed to have children to work for Epstein and his pals.
Welcome to “Slave New World”,
