Trump says he killed DEI. So why isn't it dead yet? Cracks emerge in war on 'woke'

(USA Today) With the swirl of a black Sharpie marker, President Donald Trump issued an executive order on his first day back in the White House, cracking down on what he calls “illegal and radical” diversity, equity and inclusion practices.

It was the first in a series of actions to make good on campaign promises to wipe out DEI.

Over 100 days in office, the president purged diversity initiatives in the federal government and the military, threatened to strip billions of dollars in federal funding and grants from universities and pressured major corporations to roll back diversity initiatives or risk losing federal contracts – or worse.

1. The only "illegal and radical " actions are his. DEI is in our fabric as a country and a sharpie can't stop it

These are all just guestimates,

First, "ANTI-woke" means white people maintain unfair advantages. That's 58% when you remove Hispanics, blacks, Asians, etc.

It also means that women continue to face a glass ceiling. So take another 30% out, which is the white women, leaving 28%

It certainly means that LGBT people will be persecuted. That's another 3% that weren't already excluded, leaving 25%.

And then we have people subject to age discrimination, religious biases, physical and mental disabilities. Caring for them ain't "anti-woke". So that leaves us with about 20% of the population that has a reasonable expectation of benefiting from a war on DEI.

It should not be possible for a 20% minority to sustain this position. Let's keep pressuring companies to reject this hate.

6. I think you have "woke" backwards. I think you mean anti-woke, which is anti-DEI, anti-caring, anti-opportunity

"Woke" means alive to the reality that historically discriminated-against groups (colour, 2SLGBT+, women) face huge barriers to attaining the things in life that they are capable of and trained for and merit by accomplishment.

First, "woke" means white people maintain unfair advantages.

That's backwards. "Woke" means white men have to compete fairly while others get mentoring, education, and opportunities to prove themselves fairly.

I was sloppy. What I meant to say was more like, the people screaming "woke" are all about maintaining male, white privilege.

Nonetheless, the issue here is that even if the politicians pandering to the anti-woke sentiments intended to favor "their people" (and they don't) that is only about 20% of the population that has any reasonable expectation of privilege under the anti-woke thing.

In reality, it is just another wedge issue, like abortion and guns, that the 1% use to give themselves (and nobody else) privilege.

3. Strong DEI is a much more just, fair, and effective approach than any amount of "reparation" payments. . nt
