Opinion - Republicans' $715 billion health care cut won't work, but it will hurt millions

As Congress debates the future of America’s health care system, we hear the same recycled talking points from the far right: “Cut people off Medicaid. Make them work more. Crack down on fraud.” All in the name of cutting $715 billion from Americans’ health care to give tax breaks to the wealthy and giant corporations.

Let’s be clear — this is political theater, not fiscal responsibility.

The undocumented immigrants Republicans claim are taking Medicaid spending? The federal government doesn’t cover them.

The so-called “able-bodied” adults who should get a job? Many are working in low-wage jobs without health coverage or providing unpaid care to loved ones. Punishing them won’t shrink our deficit, but it will swell our emergency rooms.

I think if it hurts millions, it IS working. I think our rulers want us under enormous, constant duress. Midnight Writer May 15 #1

We are being led into a New Dark Age, where we will be so busy trying to survive we will have no will or way to stand up to power.

Chaos and mayhem are their goal.

I think one of the reasons we haven't seen the Dominionists raise their voices and their rules more loudly up to now has been they are waiting until the point where we're stressed to the max. At that point, they can institute their rules and laws governing religion in your life. For many of us, religion isn't a constant stressor in our lives. It ends up, I think, in Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs with higher learning, etc., after our basic needs have been met... IOW, when the stress of our lives is smaller. Constantly pushing the disaster button in us, keeping our blood pressure high and our frustrations even higher, our first reaction is gonna be one of two paths... disregard religion altogether, or immerse yourself into it as a salve. Meanwhile, the Dominionists will grab each of those 7 Mountains they can possibly rule and force us into worshipping in their mold. Basically, be a slave to a certain, specific religion. That's one more of the Amendments trump doesn't really care about, except as it affects the dollar amounts coming from his theology puppet masters.

I hope we can cut through the chaos and mayhem before the worst of the theology mandates comes down. It'll be a whole new thing trying to rid ourselves of it, as well as trying to get our government out of corruption and back to working for us. If I was 40 years younger, I might look upon this eagerly as a challenge... much like I did Women's Rights in the 70's. But I'm old now, and decrepit of body. This is when I hope the younger generation will pick up the baton and finish running the race we started back in the 1960's.
