Detroit-Canada bridge to open by late July after delay due to issues between countries, sources say

A completed bridge linking Detroit and Canada is expected to open by the end of the month after U.S. and Canadian officials reached an agreement to resolve the dispute that delayed its debut, according to two people directly involved in the negotiations.

The sources were not authorized to publicly disclose the deal before a formal announcement.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for early June was postponed after the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority said the two countries needed more time to resolve “outstanding issues.” The delay followed President Donald Trump’s earlier threats to block the bridge’s opening.

Commercial traffic is now expected to begin before Aug. 1, according to two officials, though a date for the official ribbon-cutting ceremony has not yet been set.

The Gordie--Howe bridge opening was held up by the asshole in the white house do to whining from his asshole billionaire friend that owns the ambassador bridge which is over-crowded and falling apart. Canada paid for the new bridge to be built (even using mostly US Labor) and came up with a system to collect tolls until it pays itself off and then it will split the tolls with the US. Pres Dump has been telling them they need to give the US more money or they won't let it open - extortion of course

Canada paid for the bridge since MI repubs wouldn't. The original deal was that Canada would recoup the money through fees. trump and his toadies acted like this wasn't part of the original plan. So you can bet that trump is making some kind of money deal. The Maroun family who own the Ambassador Bridge does not want the new bridge to open. They gave trump money to stop it opening.
