GOP Senator Says He Achieved His 'Mission' By Yelling At Trump Over Iran War

Margaret Brennan, the moderator of CBS Newss Face the Nation, sat down with Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) this week following the Louisiana Republican yelling at President Donald Trump during Wednesdays GOP luncheon.
Cassidy and Trump tussled over his vote in favor of a non-binding resolution directing the Trump administration to end the war in Iran, a vote Cassidy now says hes changed his mind on. Trump endorsed Cassidys GOP primary opponent, effectively ensuring Cassidy would not be reelected this November.
So Senator, as I understand it, the Vice President and Special Envoy Witkoff gave you a special briefing in the Situation Room late Wednesday on Iran. What you heard made you change your vote. And why are you no longer trying to stop the president from resuming strikes in Iran? Brennan began.
Thats actually not my original rationale for voting for the War Powers Act. My original rationale is because we were not being briefed we, the Senate, the Congress of the United States. And I felt it was important that we be briefed, Cassidy replied, adding:
I agreed with the presidents original goals; those had not been achieved, by my perception, and so before I can say, okay, everythings hunky-dory, I said I need to be briefed.

(30 posts)I think that this move right here is very interesting. He was kicked out of office by a deeply pro-Trump electorate, in a state that gave Trump one of the highest primary vote percentages in 2024. So he might be willing to break from his party in the next year knowing there is nothing else going to happen.
This type of behavior is the top reason why I would not be totally shocked if Trump is removed after a blue wave though I would be somewhat surprised if it really happens. Because a lot of Republicans on the inside secretly hate Trump. If they have the chance to vote him out in a Senate hearing, a few might take it, especially considering how the vote is structured.

Cassidy is pissed that trump killed his re-election campaign. But, as a Republican, he can still be bought while trump needs his vote.
