Exclusive: Secret Service will offer tailored suits to new protective detail agents

Source: CNN

New Secret Service protective detail agents are about to get a wardrobe upgrade, courtesy of taxpayers.

The Secret Service will soon offer each agent who graduates from protective detail training two tailored suits, according to sources familiar with the matter and a public contract solicitation.

The initiative to have the Secret Service purchase suits happened because Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem disliked how a protective detail was dressed in the suits they bought for themselves, two sources familiar with the matter told CNN.

DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin denied that account, telling CNN, “This does not have to do with optics” but aims to fix inequities for the “men and woman who are just starting their career.”

I don't object, per se. Sears Actionwear probably sticks out on the international stage, I'd imagine. Most carry more than a pistol and radio under their jacket, so I get the tailoring too.

Be interested to know if the suits are made in the USA. Are any decent suits made in the USA, anymore? I haven't worn once since my last funeral/wedding/whatever.

. . . but at age 81 I own exactly ZERO suits. Do own a couple of really nice sport coats or blazers or whatever they are that I picked up at a Goodwill store years ago. Ditto for some really nice slacks and shirts -- all used, all top quality, all from Goodwill.

Best time to shop thrift stores is December because that's when the rich folks are ditching their wardrobes for the tax deduction they can get for donations. I find lots of what appear to be bespoke shirts, trousers, jackets, suits in Goodwill in the DC area. Smaller areas may not have the same.

And he’s interesting, which is more than can be said for a lot of people, like Kristi Noem.
