Governor Maura Healey launches re-election bid with an arrow aimed at Donald Trump

Governor Maura Healey, who first rose to prominence as a high-profile antagonist to President Trump, touted her record on tackling the state’s still-seething affordability crisis while, perhaps most prominently, taking on Trump in a video formally launching her bid for a second term on Tuesday.

“We work hard, we look out for each other,” Healey said in the video, which her campaign released Tuesday morning, days before she is scheduled to deliver her third State of the Commonwealth address. “But these are tough times. And Donald Trump is making everything worse.”

In the video, the Arlington Democrat laid out her case for a second four-year term, painting a picture of an administration that has sought to lower costs, better schools, and turn around an embattled MBTA system.

She has signed a $1 billion tax relief bill, fulfilling a part of her 2022 campaign platform, and has pushed to invest more money in teaching young students to read. Phil Eng, her hand-picked T general manager — and current transportation secretary — has won widespread praise.

... it looks like it was a wide-ranging tax revision in 2023. It increases or adds tax credits for lower income workers, deductions for certain rental expenses, senor tax credits, etc. This helps lower income people. The bill also cut short-term capital gains taxes for small business and did something to reduce costs to business for taking on apprentices and interns. Stuff like that.

The few articles I skimmed were pretty positive about the overall package.
