U.S. Senator Comes Out And Says It About Trump: 'Invoke The 25th Amendment'

Source: Huff Post

Jan 20, 2026, 02:11 AM EST

Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) is calling on President Donald Trump’s Cabinet and Vice President JD Vance to remove him from office via the 25th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution over his latest threat to Greenland.

Markey shared a New York Times headline on X about Trump’s letter to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, which noted that since he was not awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, he no longer feels an “obligation to think purely of Peace.”

“Invoke the 25th Amendment,” Markey replied, referring to a constitutional process by which the vice president and a majority of the Cabinet can declare a president unable to perform his duties. If the president contests that declaration, Congress would ultimately decide whether he remains in power.

While Greenland is a semi-autonomous Danish territory, Trump said earlier this month that “one way or the other, we’re going to have Greenland” and has repeatedly refused to rule out the use of military force. That was enough for Markey and at least three other U.S. lawmakers. Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), Rep. Sydney Kamlager-Dove (D-Calif.) and Rep. Yassamin Ansari (D-Ariz.) also called for the 25th Amendment to be invoked, with Ansari explicitly describing Trump as “extremely mentally ill.”

The president of the United States is extremely mentally ill and it’s putting all of our lives at risk. The 25th Amendment exists for a reason—we need to invoke it immediately.

I would take out the padding, and put in hardened cement. Let him bash his head against that.

If they don't stand up and do their jobs, Mad King Donald will destroy what took centuries to build.

Our republic won't make it to its 250th anniversary. It will be something else.

because of his serial cognitive tests and probably those "heart" tests he had done not long ago...MRI or CT of something or other. Get those doctors on the stand in Congress.

Anyone who thinks that Vance and a majority of the cabinet would pursue a 25th amendment action against Trump is hopelessly naive or doesn't fully understand how the 25th amendment works.

the only fly in my ointment to the thought is how greedy and ambitious is Vance and the others? As one moves out, the others move and shuffle for higher positions. Granted, we'd be no better off, IMO, if that should happen. But I never discount the greed of the underlings...
