Nobel Foundation voids Trump's gifted Nobel Peace Prize: "The decision is final"

Source: msn

Story by Rey Harris • 7h

In a press release issued Friday, the foundation explained that no matter what happens to the medal, "it is and remains the original laureate who is recorded in history as the recipient of the prize."

"Even if the medal or diploma later comes into someone else's possession, this does not alter who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize," the statement said, later adding, "The decision is final and applies for all time."

The statement came after Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado – the most recently selected laureate – "presented" her medal to Trump during a White House visit on Thursday.

Machado explained it was "a recognition for his unique commitment with our freedom," while Trump posted on social media, "Maria presented me with her Nobel Peace Prize for the work I have done.".......................

The Nobel Prize @NobelPrize
Statement from the Nobel Foundation

One of the core missions of the Nobel Foundation is to safeguard the dignity of the Nobel Prizes and their administration. The Foundation upholds Alfred Nobel’s will and its stipulations. It states that the prizes shall be awarded to those who "have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind," and it specifies who has the right to award each respective prize. A prize can therefore not, even symbolically, be passed on or further distributed.

🇳🇴 Norwegian prime minister says Trump repeatedly begs for the Nobel Peace Prize

Norwegian prime minister Jonas Gahr Støre says that Donald Trump raises the same issue every time they meet. According to Støre, Donald Trump repeatedly complains, pleads, and demands to know why he has not been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Støre explains that he gives the same answer every time. The decision is made entirely by the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which operates independently and without any involvement from the Norwegian government.

It is, as Støre reportedly notes with thinly veiled frustration, a concept Trump appears fundamentally unable to grasp.

If he can't steal something, extort it, or intimidate someone into yielding it to him he is simply incapable of imagining any other way of achieving his goal.

but I think people forget that the "fight or flight" reflex is actually "fight, flight, freeze or fawn". Machado (like WAY too many others) has essentially chosen "fawn" in an attempt to appease the Narcissist with Nukes.

The Diapered Despot is too stupid to realize that possession of the prize medal does NOT make one the winner of the prize. It only makes him the ahole who bullied the Prize winner into giving him her symbolic trinket.

The award was made. The medal is a trinket. It's not too hard, if you have the money, to find a NFL Superbowl ring for sale, but acquiring you doesn't make you a Superbowl player.

Trump probably thinks the Norwegian government can exert pressure and threaten and finagle the Nobel committee into legit naming him, since after all it's what he would do and it's always worked for him.

I’m not even sure you engaged Wiz Imp’s statements other than say the Nobel Foundation cannot rescind an award because it has previously decided it is prohibited by the rules established by its self. There are all kinds of arguments as to why they might not want to do that, but restating their position is not one of them.

The source for this claim is a German site, TAG24 News. "Void" seems to be an unfortunate translation for what actually happened, which is that the Nobel Prize committee is not recognizing an attempt to transfer the award to a non-recipient.

The prize has not been "voided." It is still in effect. The recipient is, as it always was, Maria Corina Machado. She cannot transfer the award to someone else.

The award might, physically, be in the possession of someone other than a recipient, but that person does not become the revipient.

To say that the award has been voided, though, is not correct. MSN sweeps this stuff up and doesn't do any fact-checking.

The award still stands.

58. MaddowBlog-Trump received a Nobel Peace Prize the same way he received a Purple Heart
Mon Jan 19, 2026, 05:21 PM

The president seems to prefer a model where others do the heavily lifting and then generously turn over their honors.

Trump received a Nobel Peace Prize the same way he received a Purple Heart:

He wants the honors without the sacrifice. He prefers a model in which others do the work and then generously turn over their awards to him, because, as he put it, it’s “much easier.” www.ms.now/rachel-maddo...

Steve Benen (@stevebenen.com) 2026-01-16T16:59:30.116Z

https://www.ms.now/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/trump-received-a-nobel-peace-prize-the-same-way-he-received-a-purple-heart
That reminded me of a story from almost a decade ago. Politico published this report in August 2016:

Without setting foot on a battlefield, Donald Trump said he received a Purple Heart medal on Tuesday at his rally in Ashburn, Virginia, from a retired lieutenant colonel and supporter.

‘I said to him, “Is that like the real one, or is that a copy?”’ the Republican nominee said moments after taking the stage at a local high school. Trump recounted the exchange, remarking that the man, who he identified as retired Lt. Col. Louis Dorfman said, ‘That’s my real Purple Heart. I have such confidence in you.’

“I always wanted to get the Purple Heart,” the then-candidate declared. “This was much easier.”

Purple Hearts are awarded to service members or their families after they’re wounded or killed in the course of their military service. Due to alleged “bone spurs” in his feet, Trump avoided military service, but by his own admission, he “always wanted to get the Purple Heart” anyway.

Having someone who actually served in the military hand him the honor was “much easier” for Trump than actually wearing the uniform and putting his life on the line.

With Machado, the story is similar: Trump wants the accolades without the sacrifice. He apparently prefers a model in which others do the heavily lifting and then generously turn over their honors to him, without him having to do anything to merit the award he covets.

But while the president will likely celebrate the Nobel Peace Prize that ended up in his possession, he’ll know — we all know — that there’s a dramatic difference between a gift and earned honors.
