GOP insiders fret over 'biggest flashing red light warning sign' that could flip 43 seats

Democrats are emboldened as GOP communicators sound the alarm over what they say is "one of the biggest flashing red light warning signs weve seen yet for Republicans." Right-wing personality Collin Rugg reported late on Tuesday what would be seen as a troubling trend for Republicans, even after the GOP won a highly watched contest in Tennessee.
"JUST IN: Republican Matt Van Epps is expected to win Tennessee's 7th District by just 7 points, a district Trump won by 22 points in 2024," the influencer wrote on social media. "Here are the shifts by county compared to the 2024 presidential election: Davidson: 25 points to the left. Dickson: 12 points to the left. Hickman: 8 points to the left. Humphreys: 12 points to the left. Wayne: 7 points to the left. Decatur: 9 points to the left. Benton: 9 points to the left. Houston: 12 points to the left. Perry: 15 points to the left."
GOP communicator Matt Whitlock shared the message from Rugg, writing with it, "This is one of the biggest flashing red light warning signs weve seen yet for Republicans." "If every House district in the country shifted left by this same amount - about 15 points - we would be looking at a blue wave far worse than 2018 - estimated 43 seats flipping," he wrote.
Dem communicator CJ Warnke of House Majority PAC picked up on that, writing, "If top Republican strategists are sounding the alarm like this publicly, you can only imagine the meltdowns being had behind closed doors."

Dear Indiana and Florida GOP: The only way you can gerrymander more red seats is by making existing Republican incumbent districts even weaker.
I dare you to do so after tonights 13 point over performance by Democrats in a midterm level turnout special election in Tennessee.

(44,297 posts)It couldnt be your messaging. That is loud and clear. It couldnt be your leadership. You dont have any. Maybe you should form a blue ribbon committee to study the phenomena.

(40,529 posts)Back when Jim Jordan's district looked like a duck, I read an article that stated that gerrymandering can backfire when a district suddenly changes demographics or disposition. Demographic changes take longer, but a district's disposition can change in a matter of months & that's what we've seen this year. The House is especially vulnerable cuz people are more willing to vote for the other party or not vote at all, since rep terms are only two years.

(76,066 posts)they own the post office, they have millions of people* who will work to make sure that democrats cant
vote or have their vote counted both inside and outside of the government, and they own the media too.
And they have unlimited money too.
* I was once told by some sweet little old republican lady who was working @ precinct something
like, we cant let the coloreds take over. I was a good looking white guy in a coat and tie and she
thought I must be a Republican.

(164,233 posts)In January (once Spanberger is sworn in), there will be 24 states with (D) governors and 26 with (R) governors -

(and in states like PA, the Secretary of State is picked by the governor)
Also in 2026, there will be 16 (D) trifectas vs 23 (R) trifectas -

And of the 11 with "divided" government (where the legislature is one or split party and the governor is one or the other), (D)s have governors in 8 of those 11.
They will try to thwart us but it's definitely not hopeless as some of the MAGat or MAGaat-support base are slowly waking up.

(40,529 posts)just to be a judge as a dem. I said, I can't believe you told me that. I could tell the lead judge. She said, go ahead. They can't do anything about it & your side does it too.
That Dominion was bought by a right winger is troubling.

(17,221 posts)and as a voter now in a heavily R precinct, I have never seen any partisanship on the part of any poll worker. We were all there to make sure any voter who was registered and wanted to vote could do so. When I served as a judge there were two other precincts that shared the same polling place.
Personally, I don't believe anyone who volunteers to be a poll worker goes into it with the mindset to stop voters from voting.

(18,230 posts)yet they vote against their own self interest thinking that party is above country. Stupid idiots do not understand that in a Democracy, one party should not get support if its screwing up.

(8,601 posts)blue states, more chaos overseas, more help from global oligarchs and dictators, more threats, more court challenges, more steroids in the WH.
After all the 'gains' and planning of last 50 years and especially the last 10 the world's oligarchs and ultra-wealthy won't give up that easily. The majority will have to battle (legally) with the determination, perseverance, and intelligence exhibited every day by folks such as Marc Elias. He can't do it alone.

(164,233 posts)There is a newer group out there helping - Democracy Forward.
Democracy Forward is a national legal organization that advances democracy and social progress through litigation, policy and public education, and regulatory engagement.

They have really been a fantastic supplement to Elias' Democracy Docket.
Of course, the groups that pre-dated Elias like ACLU, have probably done most of the cases.

(1,257 posts)Republicans have about a year until the midterms, and this will elevate their efforts at corrupting the vote. Gerrymandering, Voter List manipulation, etc etc etc.
As I think it was Goebells? under Hitler who said: It's not the votes, it's who COUNTS the votes that matters....
