CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) The West Virginia Board of Education on Tuesday reinstated a school vaccination mandate after the state Supreme Court paused a lower court's ruling that allowed parents to cite religious beliefs to opt out of shots required for their children to attend classes.
The Supreme Court earlier Tuesday issued a stay in last week's ruling by Raleigh County Circuit Judge Michael Froble in a class-action lawsuit. In issuing an injunction, Froble said children of families who objected to the states compulsory vaccination law on religious grounds would be allowed to attend school and participate in extracurricular sports.
The Supreme Court halted Froble's ruling pending resolution of appeals in the case. In light of that, the board said in a statement that it is reinstating its directive to county boards of education not to accept religious exemptions to compulsory vaccination laws. This directive will be in effect until the Supreme Court issues further guidance.
The board further said its priority is to ensure compliance with the vaccine law and safeguard the health and well-being of all students across West Virginia.

(3,487 posts)Its rare, but one can be what is known as a nonresponder to a vaccine. Take the MMR as the example. You could get the vaccine and make antibodies for the mumps and rubella viruses, but not the measles.
How do I know? Because Im one of those rare people. I found out when I had a required titer for grad school. It showed my antibodies were too low. Got the vaccine two more times with titers after each and no immune response.
So, I rely on herd immunity to protect me from measles. If I were to get it as an adult, it could be deadly. Let me just say that if I did get it and it could be traced to some antivaxx assholes kid, either my estate (and thus, my son) or I would sue for every goddamned dime I could get. I dont care if they could never pay it off. Theyd be my version of Alex Tinfoil Hat Jones (Q-Insane).
Examples need to be made of these people.

(12,626 posts)Now that's a surprise statement, coming from a W. Virginia board of any kind.
W. Virginia has the second highest net approval rating of Trump, second to only first-place Wyoming.
