Author and philanthropist Lauren Sánchez Bezos joined "Good Morning America" on Monday to make an exclusive announcement for the Day 1 Families Fund, a nonprofit founded with her husband, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, that has made a $2 billion commitment in grants to nonprofits fighting homelessness.

Bezos announced the organization has committed $102.5 million in new grants this year for 32 nonprofits across the country.

"This year, we're able to give more than $100 million -- it makes a huge impact," Bezos said of the funds, which are directed to organizations that help families "get moving in the right direction."

"This is just the beginning," she continued. "It's a $2 billion commitment, so we're gonna continue doing it. We have an incredible group of advisers on the ground -- they know what communities need. We've been able to give to all 50 states, and they really tell us what places like the [Washington, D.C., nonprofit] Community of Hope need."

She has a long way to go before she catches up to Mackenzie Scott.

The ex-wife is giving away billions.

102 MiLLION dollars... sounds like a lot. It is a lot to you and me.

Today ( right this minute ) Jeff Bezos is worth 245 Billion USD.

102,000,000 / 245,000,000,000 is .04 PERCENT of his net worth.

I am doing OK... upper middle class job, great stock options in a hot company... paid out in nice big fat quarterly share deposits in my 401K.

Doing really well, financially. I mean I support my daughter, my niece, and my sister ( to various degrees of complete financial support ), plus my girlfriend.

the equivalent of my net worth would be donating $94 dollars.

Their $102 million dollars ( after taxes and cash payment of at least 400 to 500 million dollar lotto win )... is the same to them as an OK steak dinner is to me and my girlfriend. $94 usd.

Then on top of that we have the enormous bill for her monthly botox, weight loss injections,
plastic surgery, massages, beautician, facials, stylists, etc etc.

The sad thing is that she always looks terrible. Even with that kind of spending.

In a less fucked up world CEOs and businesses would pay their employees fairly so they could afford a home and food.

CEOs and businesses would also be taxed at a far higher rate (look at the top tax rates in the 50s and 60s) so that the government would be in much better position to set up programs for the lower income groups, not to mention healthcare for all.

AND in my most humble opinion, nobody becomes a billionaire by treating their employees and customers fairly.

I was thinking the same thing. She should be lobbying Congress to get private equity out of residential housing.

I must have missed the purity test for homeless charity here. Maybe I missed some finer point about how the money is spent, if there's some contingency on the donations (has to go to church, no abortions, no LGBTQ, etc). Didn't see if from the article or the brief bit of reading I did.

Maybe if our country and our collective leadership wasn't so fucking head up their asses greedy, spineless and useless for the last...I dunno, long ass time, beholden to corporate sponsors and lobbyists FIRST, the homeless wouldn't need Bezos' money. But from the responses in this thread, fuck them for their charity, right?

Keep that tribalism going. It's what they want.
