D.C. police to begin patrolling with National Guard after fatal attack

If enacted on a long-term basis, the change would significantly shift the way National Guard troops have worked with law enforcement in the District since their arrival.

National Guard troops patrolling in D.C. will be paired with local law enforcement personnel, at least temporarily, in the wake of the Wednesday attack that killed one troop and critically injured another, according to an email obtained by The Washington Post and two D.C. police officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss planning that is still in progress.

1. How about we send the Guard home and put DC police on the street where warranted but without the xtra duties

of having to provide protection to the National Guard--who might well continue to be targeted? How about we give all the jurisdictions/states throughout the country the money they were SUPPOSED to get from Congress and send the damned ICE packing.

3. A U.S. District court ruled Trump's deployment of the National Guard to assist with local crime control was unlawful.

The judge found the use of military troops for domestic law enforcement set a dangerous precedent and violated the District's sovereign authority. The order was put on hold for 21 days (until December 11) to give the Trump administration time to appeal the decision. Had Trump obeyed the ruling, the two guardsmen would not have been shot.

with a large percentage fatalities. Thoughts of improvement are fantasy. Act accordingly. The guns are winning.

5. IMO, the death of the 20yo NG member is squarely on Donald Trump. There is absolutely no reason for her deployment.

10. Highlights the fact that NG are NOT police

Using the NG as a police force is like using a hammer when a screwdriver is called for.

They have had no civilian police training and don’t have the developed instincts that would help to spot trouble and react appropriately.

Would police training have helped in this situation? Kind of doubt it. Because it looks like this guy was basically hunting National Guard.

We still don’t know why but this seems to have been a targeted attack.

One thing is certain— if they had not been wandering the streets of DC this young women and the surviving Young man would never have been shot.

The blame is all on Trump.

He is using the national guard because he is their Commander-In-Chief. But they are a tool inappropriate to the mission.

Anyone with half a brain can see this is totally stupid. Makes no sense at all. How are the republicans not totally embarrassed?
When are they going to say, ‘enough’.
