Trump calls for disgraced election official linked to his 'Big Lie' to be freed - as Colorado officials dig their heels

Source: The Independent

Sunday 23 November 2025 17:01 EST

The battle over the fate of Tina Peters, a disgraced Colorado elections official who was convicted of felonies related to efforts to interfere with the 2020 election on Donald Trump’s behalf, grew thornier on Sunday with the intervention of the president himself.

Peters, who remains in a Colorado prison after her conviction on seven charges last year, remains adamant that she acted within the bounds of legality and her personal responsibility when she allowed an associate of MyPillow salesman and Trump loyalist Mike Lindell to access a secure room to make a copy of a hard drive containing data from the 2020 presidential election results for the state of Colorado.

This past week the state’s Department of Corrections received a request from the U.S. Justice Department to transfer Peters into federal custody. The reasoning for the request was not explained, nor clear: Peters is not convicted of any federal crimes, as her case was adjudicated at the state level. The request came directly from Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, one of the president’s appointees and his former personal attorney.

Now, it seems the intent of that request is clear: Trump, on Sunday, called for Peters to be freed immediately. “FREE TINA PETERS, WHO SITS IN A COLORADO PRISON, DYING & OLD, FOR ATTEMPTING TO EXPOSE VOTER FRAUD IN THE RIGGED 2O20 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION!!!” wrote Trump in one of his all-caps Truth Social diatribes.

You see him keep doing that same type of insane thing over and over with his other state cases - notably the NY ones - trying to rip them out of the state courts, move them to the federal courts, and then somehow get Daddy Roberts to nullify the convictions so he'll be scot-free.

the feds have no legal authority to demand she be released into their custody, which would be her being freed.
She was convicted on state charges, tried in a state court before a state judge and jury, sentenced in a state court by a state judge and sent to a state prison.

Good for Colorado for basically giving Pedonald the middle finger.

and an Election Official in my community for many years, I can't stress enough how important it is to keep this woman in jail. Perhaps, if she had completed her required certification as I did, she would have taken her position as a non-partisan more seriously. She broke the law. She betrayed her constituents' trust in the electoral process. She was convicted by a jury of her peers. She went to prison. What's the argument against her serving out her sentence? I can't think of one.

Bondi's entire DOJ should be required to watch it.

On Thursday, Judge Matthew Barrett sentenced a defiant Tina Peters to 9 years behind bars on multiple charges – including felonies – for a data-breach plot amid false claims of voting machine fraud during the 2020 presidential election. “You are no hero. You abused your position – and you’re a charlatan who used, and is still using your prior position to peddle a snake oil that’s been proven to be junk time and time again,” said Judge Barrett. “Your lies are well-documented and these convictions are serious. I’m convinced you’d do it all over again if you could.” Judge Barrett added: “You’re as defiant as a defendant as this court has ever seen.”

The Judge did an exceptional job of laying bare the underlying unmitigated blatant abdication of Tina Peters' sworn legal duties.

Savor the song of that suffering fool!

May her ongoing incarceration fuel the fires of patriotic justice that must ultimately rule our land.

May reason's rule ultimately restore what delusion's rule has destroyed of our freedoms, our livelihoods and our pursuits of happiness.
