Supreme Court blocks order that found Texas congressional map is likely racially biased

Source: AP

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday temporarily blocked a lower court ruling that found Texas’ 2026 congressional redistricting plan pushed by President Donald Trump likely discriminates on the basis of race.

The order signed by Justice Samuel Alito will remain in place at least for the next few days while the court considers whether to allow the new map favorable to Republicans to be used in the midterm elections.

The court’s conservative majority has blocked similar lower court rulings because they have come too close to elections.

The order came about an hour after the state called on the high court to intervene to avoid confusion as congressional primary elections approach in March. The justices have blocked past lower-court rulings in congressional redistricting cases, most recently in Alabama and Louisiana, that came several months before elections. The order was signed by Alito because he is the justice who handles emergency appeals from Texas.

the state of rule of law in the Third Branch -- jurisprudence blocked, stayed, or overruled in favor of rule of men. This lower court's block wasn't unanimous, and it probably doesn't take much but a dissent from one lower court republican appointed judge on any three judge panel, which is what happened in this case.
One doesn't have to be a constitutional lawyer, but usually just pay attention to Sheldon Whitehouse and Marc Elias. The maga six must be "developing" some new legal "doctrine" (as Whitehouse has often noted) informed by some amicus curiae filing soon to come in from Texas.

Could the maga 6 be on the take from some richies? Sure, we've learned that one or more might be doing some quid pro quo, and who with. But kompromat by Putin? Hardly. This is more about the Roberts court's historically conflicted legacy of either allowing rule of men or constitutional rule of law to prevail. Given the massive losses on Nov 4, they're definitely conflicted.

I would be willing to bet this same MAGA court will find that California must be prohibited from redistricting.

We all know that the fascist illegitimate Roberts court are activist judges and legislates from the bench. We need to prepare ourselves for when they inevitably rule in favor of the fascists in Texas. Every blue state needs to follow California’s lead and move on this with a sense of urgency

next November, my bet is the TX redistricting will backfire spectacularly. Not only will the new supposedly R friendly districts be blue, but some of the less "safe" R districts will, too.
