House votes to denounce 'horrors' of socialism ahead of Mamdani-Trump meeting
Source: Politico
The House voted 285-98 to approve a resolution condemning the horrors of socialism Friday morning, just hours before President Donald Trump is set to meet with New Yorks incoming democratic socialist mayor Zohran Mamdani.
Eighty-six Democrats joined with Republicans to approve the measure. Two others voted present. No Republican voted to oppose it.
Speaker Mike Johnson and House GOP leaders have decried Mamdanis election as the next mayor of the countrys largest city, citing his far-left politics and arguing he is the new, radical face of the Democratic Party. Theyve vowed to make him a centerpiece of their attacks against Democrats ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
They did not, however, formally recommend a no vote. A swath of moderate Democrats, especially from New York, are uncomfortable with Mamdanis rise in their party.

(9,618 posts)Which is why I keep advocating it. Removing the current system would remove the majority of the reason that we have such a screwed up societal model and yet... we would rather keep things in their biased and unequal way than even consider doing something that will actually work against this unfettered greed machine we live in.
We love our biases, after all.

(315 posts)Did they mention anything about the Trump administration holding a 10% stake in Intel Corp, a 15% stake in MP Materials, a 10% stake in Lithium Americas Corp, a 10% stake in Trilogy Metals Inc. and a "golden share" in US Steel Corporation. Sounds kind of like socialism.
