Pentagon's DOGE Unit to Scrutinize 400,000 Contracts for Cuts

The Pentagon is preparing for its in-house DOGE team to examine almost half a million contracts and grants in a bid to trim waste.
More than 400,000 open contracts and grants will be scrutinized for additional savings in fiscal 2026 and later, and as efficiencies are identified, officials will submit formal requests to Congress to shift purported savings to other programs, according to the recently posted 2026 Budget Highlights document.
Department of Government Efficiency efforts are multi-layered and will be enacted over multiple budget cycles as the Pentagon is focused on immediately eliminating spending in conflict with Presidential priorities through a detailed review of every contract in the Department, according to the document.
The Pentagons published plans are a sign that DOGE is still embedded in the fabric of government operations even months after the controversial unit lost its architect and de facto leader, Elon Musk. Pentagon spokesperson Kingsley Wilson told reporters earlier this month that the in-house DOGE team continues to have about a dozen people and that DOGEs work at the department is not going to stop that is absolutely for certain.

I am sure that is all just a democrat hoax.
But, kick away.

(807 posts)They think their ideals are the only way and they are in line with Trump. They are paid to carry and train US weapons systems. They should find lots of fraud with these guys.

(5,983 posts)At least they are...
- Waiting till they have a chance to look at it instead of just hacking away at it blindly within 10 minutes of walking in the door
- Looking at an organization that actually does have waste. Of course I am sure their idea of waste and our idea of waste would differ.
I think the under the radar concern here is where it crosses over with this crazy idea that Trump is pressuring companies to give up ownership to the government. It doesn't take a lot of imagination to see where considerations for not cutting a contract becomes giving Trump a stake in the company. "Maybe we would reconsider cutting that weapons program if..." Such a mob-boss mentality. That is such a dangerous road to go down.

(5,983 posts)Both things are above the radar.
My under-the-radar reference is how they interact in a toxic way. Considering the two things together with the mob-boss mentality ought to set off severe alarm bells. One becomes the leverage for the other.

(159,354 posts)and 45's "mentor" was Roy Cohn! But you do have former Nixon people (when they were young aides) like Roger Stone who guide and encourage these loons to utilize Tricky Dick's most notorious tactics.
