DNC to vote on whether to redo election of David Hogg as vice chair

The Democratic National Committee will vote in June on whether to hold a redo of the election of David Hogg and Pennsylvania state Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta as vice chairs, per a Thursday evening DNC meeting.

Why it matters: Kalyn Free, a losing candidate in February's vice chair race, says the two were elected under a flawed tabulation process, but Hogg alleges the move is linked to his efforts to reform the party that include plans to spend $20 million to primary older Democratic Congress members.

Driving the news: The DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee at a virtual meeting determined that a vote should be held electronically from June 9-11.

Hogg said at the meeting the move "sends a horrible message to the public about our inability to run elections."

It "truly just sends a horrible message that we really do not want out there" if Democrats were to redo this election, he said. "That's why I believe that it should not go forward, and if it does, it does. It should not be done electronically or over mail."

Kenyatta said at the meeting that he "fundamentally" believes the election was fair.

And will make Democrats look bad. It also shows that the status quo in the Democratic Party doesn’t want change.

Of course, people that want Hogg out should be careful what they wish for. He will be more “dangerous” outside the party.

We do need younger blood. Holding office until death creates impromptu and inconvenient vacancies. Should have been done in the Obama era but he was hog-tied by GOP barriers. Generating internal strife and friction erodes our platform. And wastes money.

3. I like neither side of this. Hogg using his position to primary an incumbent is bad. DNC ousting them is bad.

All of it smells of fratricide and adds to DNC's poor image on top of the Biden press. Meanwhile, the party platform will stay as is, outdated and unprioritized to the current needs of Dem candidates for 2026 until the presidential nominating convention in 2028. Luckily many Dem candidates are basically rewriting or cherry picking the platform as they need to speak and appeal to the many voters (25% of registered Dem) who stayed home and sat on their hands in 2024.

the DNC is following an old and useless playbook. perhaps the DNC's rules say they can only back the person in office to the detriment of the enthusiasm of voters. that's a bad plan. David Hogg should be listened to, I know I'd love to have another dem run against the dem we have representing us in the second district and not be hampered by the stinginess of the DNC. that aside, I'd like to see some younger faces running......being rep or a senator should not be a life long profession. I think the easiest and fairer approach would be to amend structure rules and appoint a third vice chair.........I am happy to see Kenyatta and Hogg picking up the mantle. i've been a union member and dem voter since Goldwater ran in 63/64. it's time for a shift in the way the DNC operates. Go on David....keep asking the important questions and helping to elect the leaders we need........thank you

17. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the party doesn't generally give candidates money in the primary. Candidates

are free to fundraise. If an incumbent stinks, it should be possible for other candidates to fundraise.

I saw an article the past week - The last 8 members of Congress to die in office have all been Democrats where there were 3 just in the past 3 months.

15. Martin was a guest on set of MSNBC's

The Weeknight show a couple days ago.

He was shown a social media post about the need for you get leadership and candidates. He said he supported that idea, but didn't sound too convincing to me.

He was also asked about the vice chair election do over. He made it sound like there wouldn't be a resolution very quickly. Sort of we'll get around to it when we get around to it. But apparently that was a dodge.

Martin said his focus is on getting Dems elected.

I'd never seen Martin before. He struck me as kind of a conventional thinker, no new ideas or open to new ideas.
