Tesla Loses a Major Record for the First Time Amid Musk Backlash

Source: daily beast

Janna Brancolini Updated 05.22.25 7:04AM EDT /

Tesla cars were outsold by a rival electric-vehicle manufacturer in Europe for the first time. The Chinese company BYD sold 7,231 fully electric cars in April compared to Tesla’s 7,165, according to the automotive data firm Jato Dynamics. The numbers represent a breakthrough for BYD as Tesla has dominated the European battery electric vehicle market for years. BYD only began operating beyond Norway and the Netherlands in late 2022, but has apparently benefited from Tesla’s reputation tanking since CEO Elon Musk joined President Donald Trump’s administration. This week, it emerged that even King Charles III decided not to go with Tesla when he bought a $210,000 fully electric SUV. Instead, the eco-conscious monarch chose to buy a Lotus, a historically British brand that now has a 51 percent Chinese ownership stake and manufactures in Wuhan, China.

Musk can do one thing and one thing only to help them - resign today and divest 100%. If he is profitting from Tesla, the company is toxic global waste at this point.

Remember - EVERYTHING Trump touches DIES. EVERYTHING!!!

Musk would have to completely divest and the company will have to be rebranded.

I can't really see Schlump bothering to throw a tantrum about this. It's Eloon's misfortune, not his, and he only cares about things that directly affect him personally. He is the center of his own universe, and all others are interchangeable stage props, even someone who's helped him out as much as the Muskrat has.

I think he's much too preoccupied with his dreams of the new toy Qatar wants to palm off on him give him to care about Musk's business problems.

Musk installed Trump into the White House and destroyed the federal government and workforce for Trump.
Musk got a lot of negative press, took the hits for Trump, and pissed off Trump's cabinet.

Trump is done with Musk.
Yes discarded like trash.
Trump is the only star of the show. Everyone else is just a prop.

He has become persona non grata in trumpland, so he becomes one of the unfortunate few ghosted by privilege's passive defense and gets bit hard by the consequences of his own actions.

There are tons of better alternatives now. Muskrat has really shined a bright spotlight on that and raised awareness of his competitors. The electric vehicle market is growing but Tesla's share of that market is shrinking. Good job super genius.

I'm so happy to almost be done with my Tesla. It was a decent car but I just can't drive in anymore in good conscience. The Cadillac is a SWEET ride. LOVE it so far!

This isn’t just because Musk is a raving Nazi K-hole. Tesla’s products are no longer competitive. Their styling is awful, the software is buggy, and the prices are higher than some of the major competitors. At this point Tesla can’t catch up.

There was a Cybertruck in the parking lot of the golf course I play at and I couldn’t believe how ugly it is and that someone bought it for that exorbitant price.

Tesla is done.

Couldn’t happen to a greater asshole.

This will take awhile—but the board will fire him soon. If he didn’t own so much of the stock he’d be gone already.
