nitpicked
(1,199 posts)House Republicans on Thursday morning passed a sweeping bill full of President Trumps legislative priorities, kicking off what is expected to be a bitter battle with the Senate over achieving key parts of the White Houses policy agenda.
The chamber cleared the sprawling package in a 215-214 early-morning vote after days of marathon meetings, intense negotiations that spanned both ends of Pennsylvania Avenue, and a series of last-minute changes to the bill, which were crucial in coalescing Republicans around the measure.
In the end, just two Republicans Reps. Thomas Massie (Ky.) and Warren Davidson (Ohio) opposed the legislation. House Freedom Caucus Chair Andy Harris (R-Md.) voted present.
The bill titled the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, adopting Trumps slogan for the measure extends the tax cuts enacted by the president in 2017; boosts funding for border, deportation, and national defense priorities; imposes reforms, like beefed-up work requirements, on Medicaid that are projected to result in millions of low-income individuals losing health insurance; rolls back green energy tax incentives; and increases the debt limit by $4 trillion, among many other provisions.

(1,084 posts)Not blaming this on him but we really need to examine this problem. Ever since RBG held on to the hopes Clinton was going to win in 2016, we've had issues with our representatives dying in office.
I'm sure in this case had we had one more vote, one of the MAGAs would have flipped to a yes or present.

It's Robin Hood in Reverse:
Republicans litetally voted to steal from YOU to give the Uber rich more taxcuts
You have the power to end this madness by voting out all Republicans in November!

(1,199 posts)(snip)
The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which lowered income tax rates for all income groups but disproportionately benefitted the highest earners, is set to expire at the end of 2025. The bill would make those tax rates permanent at an expected cost of more than $2 trillion over the next 10 years.
The GOP budget proposal would make tips tax-exempt.
The bill would also implement temporary tax breaks for tipped wages and overtime, create a new temporary deduction for the interest on loans for American-made cars, and create a new tax deduction for people over age 65. Children under 8 years old could also benefit from a new "Trump" savings account seeded with $1,000 from the federal government.
7.6 million would lose Medicaid
Medicaid, the program that provides health insurance to more than 71 million low-income Americans, would undergo big changes. That includes new work requirements for adults enrolled in Medicaid expansion beginning in December of 2026, more frequent eligibility checks, and disincentives for states to cover unauthorized migrant children, among other provisions. Collectively, the Medicaid proposal would save at least $625 billion and cause 7.6 million Americans to lose their health insurance over the next 10 years, according to initial estimates by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.
The proposal would also implement new requirements in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known as SNAP or food stamps, which provides assistance to around 42 million Americans. That would save up to $300 billion over the next ten years and shift more of the cost of the program to states.

(3,362 posts)The current budget bill is an atrocity and out-of-touch leaders like Chuck Schumer laid the groundwork by voting for the CR.

Appeasement and complicity do not work. When you bend the knee, theyâll break your leg.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer
Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania
Senator Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada
Senator Brian Schatz of Hawaii
Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of New York
Senator Gary Peters of Michigan
Senator Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire
Senator Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire
Senator Angus King of Maine, an independent who frequently caucuses with Democrats
Each voted in favor of the Continuing Resolution.

Every Democrat voted "No!"
Every Democrat voted against boosting the national debt Republicans only say they hate.
Every Democrat voted to protect the social safety net.
Every Democrat needs to remind voters what REPUBLICANS, and only REPUBLICANS, did.

(3,202 posts)I think they've proven that many times over. They can be counted on to be in lockstep with everything Trump wants. The one or two strays that pop up mean nothing. Their own party will take care of them.
This is where we are at. We'd better start thinking outside of the box if we are going to save anything.

(9,112 posts)So many--TOO many--folks will view this as the government killing the economy, more destruction out of Washington, etc.; instead of REPUBLICANS doing this, REPUBLICANS destroying the country, THAT SIDE of the aisle making Americans suffer.
And through that fog and the passage of time, the GQP will always be given another chance.
PLEASE make me wrong!
