Trump, South African president clash in White House meeting

Differences between President Trump and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa came to a head Wednesday afternoon in an Oval Office meeting, as they clashed over whether White genocide is taking place in South Africa.

Mr. Trump and Rampahosa met for a critical conversation — with South African-born billionaire Elon Musk in the room — amid tensions between the U.S. and South Africa, after the U.S. accepted 59 White Afrikaners last week and granted them status as refugees.

At one point in the meeting, Ramaphosa took a question intended for Mr. Trump about what it will take to persuade him that there isn't White genocide happening in South Africa.

"It will take President Trump listening to the voices of South Africans, some of whom are his good friends, like those who are here," responded Rampahosa, who brought South African golfers Ernie Els and Retief Goosen and billionaire businessman Johann Rupert with him to the White House. "When we have talks between us at a quiet table, it will take President Trump to listen to them. I will not be repeating what I've been saying."

3. Loved the way Pres. Ramaphosa took that

question away from Trump. He handled a difficult situation skillfully, I thought. He did indeed have a mic drop.

In future, perhaps these set-ups will be avoided when leaders simply stop these Oval Office visits. Leaders not in Trump's pocket at least.
