In unsealed declaration, Rubio claims disclosing some information about Abrego Garcia case would cause 'significant harm

Source: ABC News

Secretary of State Marco Rubio's "declaration," frequently cited as the basis for the Trump administration's invoking of the rarely used state secrets privilege to withhold certain information about the removal and detention of wrongly deported Kilmar Abrego Garcia was finally unsealed late Friday night.

The declaration was unsealed under an order by U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis, following a lengthy hearing in Maryland in which she pressed Justice Department lawyers on the basis to shield information about the Trump administration's handling of the matter.

In the declaration, which is dated May 5, Rubio said that "after careful and actual personal consideration," he concluded that the disclosure of certain information requested by Abrego Garcia's attorneys "could be expected to cause significant harm to the foreign relations interests" and national security interests of the U.S.

"Compelled disclosure of any sensitive communications or discussions with the Government of El Salvador regarding Abrego Garcia's removal and confinement in CECOT and Centro Industrial threatens significant harm to the United States' foreign affairs and national security interests," Rubio said, referring to two prisons in El Salvador.

Could it be that El Salvador is sending the checks for holding prisoners in CECOT directly to Krasnov's personal bank account? Or some other dirty side deal with Bukake that could threaten dirty prison deals with other foreign governments?

The significant harm would most likely mean disclosure of some kind of criminal action or malfeasance committed by this administration.
These people lie like they breathe.

The facts would confirm what we already know. Trump rolled this nonsense out without a plan to be fair or efficient. It's sloppy and it will undermine trust in his programs.

Your maga Repub voters already did that.

Rubio claimed the U.S. government being forced to disclose certain information to third parties "simply because a lawsuit has been filed or a judge asked for the information" would "erode" the credibility of the United States, adding it could cause foreign states to be "less likely to work cooperatively with the United States in the future."

The only thing you can trust from this administration is their incompetence.

They would be shouting it from the rooftops.

The ACTUAL SIGNIFICANT HARM to our "foreign relations" is being deliberately inflicted by the Trump administration, including the unconstitutional deportations to a foreign gulag without due process.

With El Salvador???? A country of 6.3 million people run by a ADMITTED dictator?

It could be obliterated by a volcano tomorrow and the U.S. wouldn’t even notice it gone until next Tuesday.

And “national security?” The last refuge of a dictator?

Phuck….

Is still reviewable by FISC court judge. It is not a catch all "get out of jail free card" for executive branch crimes.

We all knew they were going to pull the national security card, which has been largely de-fanged by that SCOTUS ruling yesterday on the Alien Enemies Act, as they want to desperately use that as a catch all to avoiding oversight and judicial review.
