A group of 27 Democratic lawmakers on Wednesday urged the Trump administration to reverse course on plans to reinstate Schedule F and strip tens of thousands of federal employees of their civil service protections. The Office of Personnel Management published proposed rules last month governing the revival of President Trumps first-term effort to reclassify federal workers in policy-related roles outside of the competitive service, making them effectively at-will employees.
OPM is accepting public comments on the proposal, now renamed Schedule Policy/Career, until May 23, after which the agency is expected to finalize the rules and President Trump to sign an executive order ordering the first round of job reclassifications. In a letter to acting OPM Director Charles Ezell, a group of congressional Democrats led by Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., and Rep. Gerry Connolly, D-Va., said the administrations plan threatens to upend more than a centurys worth of laws aimed at insulating the civil service from partisan influence.
The Trump administration has made clear its ambitions to undercut the nonpartisan civil service through the Schedule Policy/Career directive, the lawmakers wrote. Reclassifying civil service positions into the excepted service removes virtually all protections and rights currently afforded to civil servants. This includes due process and appeals rights that help ensure civil servants can conduct their duties without fear of politically motivated removal or retaliatory measures.
The Democrats also questioned OPMs estimate that Schedule Policy/Career would impact around 50,000 employees, or 2% of the federal workforce, citing Government Executive reporting on erstwhile Acting Social Security Commissioner Leland Dudeks effort to convert whole offices and agency subcomponents into the new job classification.

I stumbled on the press release yesterday but found ZERO articles on this. It wasn't until this morning when I found this one but the rest of the media chose to dedicate 1/2 of their site real estate on "Puff Daddy/Puffy Combs/P-Diddy/Sean Puffy Combs/Sean Diddy Combs".

(153,178 posts)But they also want to fix it so that we never win.
You see this playing out with the SCOTUS hearing about to go on today - i.e., whether a lower court can implement a "nationwide injunction" rather than have it just apply to the jurisdiction where the offense occurred and the case was filed.
The loon GOP judges gamed that loophole by imposing their draconian rulings "nationwide" and GOPers even created a "judge-shopping" scheme to funnel their stuff through the districts in the 5th circuit (that is packed with loon appellate judges).
But now they are whining when the OTHER, more balanced or "liberal" districts in other Circuits, start doing the same thing.
Knowing this, they suddenly started trying to force people (right now it has been immigrants) out of other jurisdictions where they were arrested, and into the 5th circuit jurisdiction, so they can continue the judge shopping and imposition of their RW lunacy.
But when arguments come up about their disregarding "habeas corpus" by going that route, they NOW want to get rid of "habeas corpus" altogether so they can literally just use the 5th circuit loons to impose "law" nationally.

(18,284 posts)the imperial presidency as the constitution by SCOTUS decree means nothing. Thus the little text in the constitution about elections on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November mean nothing, that was just a suggestion.
This has been building since 1933 and the "Business Plot". Little by little. Year after year.
July 16, 2006. George Bush (the lesser). If this were a dictatorship it would be a heck of a lot easier... as long as I'm the dictator. Hehehe.
