'We want pardons to matter': Trump admin will 'take a hard look' at final grants of clemency issued by Biden

Outgoing acting U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, Ed Martin, says the Trump administration plans to investigate some pardons issued by Joe Biden presumably an atypical suite of speculative clemency grants issued during his last days in office.
The controversial lawyer made the remarks during a farewell press conference in the nations capital on Tuesday, according to The Hill.
I do think that the Biden pardons need some scrutiny, Martin said. And they need scrutiny because we want pardons to matter and to be accepted and to be something thats used correctly. So I do think were going to take a hard look.
Questions followed the presser, but Martin kept mum when asked if he would be looking into members of Congress who investigated the Jan. 6 attacks on the U.S. Capitol, according to CBS News.

There is ZERO that they can "look into". "Pardons" are something Presidents can do for anyone they want, like their deranged leader has done releasing 1,600 insurrectionists. As noted at the end of the linked OP article -

Id take $2.5 million, which is half or what Chump proposed, and would be happy to relocate to a country not ruled by a tinpot dictator.

(66,234 posts)I once had my passport stolen in Italy. I went to the closes U.S. consulate and it was absolute hell to get a temporary replacement so I could actually leave the country and get back into the USA.
There are other places Id be happy to live Id I could get $2.5 million, ad least until Trump is dead.

(66,234 posts)If so, have you researched how you would go about getting permanent residency in that country? Is there a country you think you'd be happy in?

(3,210 posts)First Trump pardons all of the convicted insurrectionists, now they want to put the people who investigated it on trial. Next it may be putting the media on trial for its "fake videos" and reporting on the event. They are going to start prosecuting people based on their lies and delusions by making those lies and delusions "fact'.
Although this will gain zero traction right now, we are in very dangerous territory.

(2,894 posts)You know, that peaceful park in Beijing where nothing bad ever happened and a couple thousand kids were not killed during a peaceful protest.
There are people in China today who were actually there, and who witnessed the carnage, who will testify from the bottom of their hearts that absolutely nothing happened at Tiananmen Square except a brief public praise of Li Ping.
Such is the plasticity of the human mind when subjected to terror. And that is exactly why the fascist GOP doggedly insists that January 6 was a wonderful day, a peaceful day, a show of patriotic love for the police, the flag, and the United States of America. Saying over and over again, knowing that it's a lie that many people will ultimately accept as gospel.
(This is especially dangerous for our children and grandchildren who are like to grow up hearing that January 6 was a truly patriotic day when thousands of Americans, moved by their love of Country, went to the Capitol to pray and rejoice.)

(7,797 posts)They want the issue of "Hunter Biden" to remain a viable harping point for the duration. They don't have much, so they have to hang on to old nonsense. Rinse, repeat.
We are not going to forget the $400 million plane he apparently bought with public money, nor the cartel families he welcomed into our country. And, it's like each GOP puke has to think of something to say on behalf of rump, and this has just been this guy's lame attempt to pander to rump.

(266 posts)Pardons will be examined. Will be deemed illegal, contrary to common practice, unenforceable, etc etc etc
Charges will be drawn up. Arrests will be made. "Justice will be done." Lawsuits will be filed. Some courts will follow, some courts will resist. SCOTUS will eventually be forced to see the issue. God knows how they will rule.
America will continue to be a clown show on the world stage.
Folks will continue to react emotionally, lose their minds, and the fight will take longer than it should as a result.

(163,560 posts)trump would love to be able to ignore these pardons and pursue his campaign of political retribution. These are valid pardons and there is nothing that Ed Marin can do about these pardons
