Gaza will be entirely destroyed, Israeli minister says
Source: The Guardian
An Israeli government minister has vowed that Gaza will be entirely destroyed as a result of an Israeli military victory, and that its Palestinian population will leave in great numbers to third countries, raising fears of ethnic cleansing in the occupied territory.
The declaration on Tuesday by the finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, came a day after Israels security cabinet approved a plan for Operation Gideons Chariots, which an Israeli official said would entail the conquest of the Gaza Strip and the holding of the territories.
[snip]
Effie Defrin, Israels chief military spokesperson, said the planned offensive would include moving most of the population of the Gaza Strip
to protect them. Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, said the population will be moved, for its own protection in a video posted on social media, but gave no further details.
[snip]
Gaza will be entirely destroyed, civilians will be sent to ... the south to a humanitarian zone without Hamas or terrorism, and from there they will start to leave in great numbers to third countries, the minister said.

(20,451 posts)For I did not consider myself justified in exterminating the menin other words, killing them or having them killedand then allowing their children to grow up to wreak vengeance on our children and grandchildren. The difficult decision had to be taken to make these people disappear from the face of the earth. For the organization that had to carry out this duty it was the most difficult that we have ever had to undertake.

(56,020 posts)with a thread on this board. People constantly make the demonstrably false claim that protests have stopped, when they've happened on a weekly basis. And what's happening here is exactly why. Yet you make this about a domestic US party, as though the two million lives in Gaza have no value.
soft targets.
Get back to us when the protesters go up against Republican officials.

(56,020 posts)Currently being killed?
The protests have been against US policy and investment in a country engaging in genocide. Do you actually think Democrats control policy today?
Right over your head.
There is nothing insightful about your comments. They are simply mistaken and navel-gazing.
Meanwhile, you cant manage to comment on the deaths of two million souls.

It's blatantly obvious.
I heard about the protests against Democrats regularly. I've yet to hear of protests against MAGAts. Weird.

(56,020 posts)There have been continual protests, including one this week at the University of Washington. Don't make the mistake of thinking that because something isn't on your teevee it isn't happening. Numerous people have posted threads making your same mistaken claim, only to be corrected with lists of protests happening. (see below). It's not possible to look at that list and then claim the protests have stopped.
There are 2 million people in Gaza currently being killed by Israel, financed with our tax dollars. Can't you manage a word of concern for those lives? They have nothing to do with our election.

(56,020 posts)Here are some recent ones for you:
Columbia, yesterday: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/us/news/2025/05/08/columbia-university-palestine-gaza-war-protest-arrests-nypd/?msockid=08d36d553cb06ffe263c78893def6e9b
Earlier this week: https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/policy/education/3402030/pro-palestinian-protesters-arrested-university-of-washington/
Some upcoming protests, including links to recurring protests is some states. Weekly in the case of MN and MD.
https://uscpr.org/pro-palestine-protests/
A few upcoming in May:
https://palestinecampaign.org/events/
An FBI raid on protestors: https://www.msn.com/en-us/crime/general/fbi-raids-part-of-complex-dance-between-police-pro-palestinian-protesters-near-ann-arbor/ar-AA1Emlnb?ocid=BingNewsSerp
Then there is the fact that a number of Palestinian protestors have had their Visas revoked and are currently locked up or have been deported.
Clearly your claim that the protests have stopped is patently false.

(6,531 posts)Palestine isn't.
iemanja
(56,020 posts)an ally? Is that the kind of foreign relations you want to promote? Who should be eradicated next? Why not let Russia exterminate Ukrainians? Russia is the current administrations ally. Perhaps we should follow Israels example and kill all Canadians and Mexicans?
Palestine isnt a nation and therefore lacks international standing to be an ally, which you well know. Additionally, our tax dollars are paying for their extermination.
mdbl
(6,531 posts)As far as the ally issue, this predates Pres Dump by decades. Whatever he does to Fuck things up worse for our other allies is a different discussion. If this is going to be the permanent trajectory of our country, nothing will get better.
iemanja
(56,020 posts)We have indeed fed their war machine for decades, and that is an ugly stain on our foreign policy. I can't think what Israel does to be an ally with us. Its principal efforts have been to try to draw us into a war with Iran. I don't care what the excuse is: funding the killing of 2 million people is unconscionable.
mdbl
(6,531 posts)But probably not.
iemanja
(56,020 posts)and extermination. Attacks against civilians are illegal, and Israels stated purpose is to wipe them all out. Israeli forces target medical facilities, humanitarian workers, children, and are intentionally starving the Palestinian people. All of that is illegal. Annexation of foreign lands is also illegal.
Do you also support Russias designs on the Ukraine, or Trumps on Canada or Greenland?
Oct 7 is a pretext, not the reason.

(6,531 posts)The people who vote for their government are responsible for the actions of that government. Even though not everyone in Gaza was a Hamas supporter, enough were. Just like we all now will have to deal with the fallout from this bunch of criminals running the U.S. voted in by very stupid people.

But there hasnt been an election in a generation. For that election 19 years ago, Netanyahu gave money to prop up Hamas as a counterweight to the Palestinian Authority so as to avoid a two-state solution. He bears more responsibility for Hamas than Gazas residents, who, despite your false claim, did not vote for Hamas or anyone else.
You know who just had an election: the US. I guess that makes you and I Nazis with no regard for the law, according to your justification for the Gazan eradication.

(6,531 posts)And since they see no definitive action to stop it yet, yes that is how we are perceived.

(17,429 posts)Try protesting against some fucking Republicans for a change.
And you aren't really helping your position by exaggerating the death toll to date in Gaza.
iemanja
(56,020 posts)They want to clear out Gaza. Thats 2 million people they will have to murder to take over. Thats the population of Gaza.
The protests are against the Republicans in power. They sure as hell arent against the party out of power.

(2,111 posts)I have seen very few stories about Gaza in the past 6 months-- until recently---
I had not read about Israel shutting down food shipments into Gaza, for instance....
Actually, I had been wondering what was happening there,
but the "highchair Hitler" has been 'flooding the zone' so much
with bad news for America, coverage of events elsewhere have not been getting through

(20,715 posts)It's been well nigh impossible to absorb and process more than a fraction of the never-ending circus of insanity we've been living with in the U.S. these last few months, not to mention protesting against it. I dont know about anyone else, but to me it's felt like a constant blizzard of crazy since January 20.
It's no wonder a lot of us have lost track of things that are going on abroad. I plead guilty as charged. ✋️🥵

(56,020 posts)Your claim has been made countless times on this site, and the OPs have always been corrected with lists of protests happening throughout the US. Yet people continue to make the same demonstrably false claim. Why? Why does the truth matter so little?

(51,665 posts)1. Gaza doesn't belong to Israel. That land isn't theirs to destroy or otherwise. If anything, Israel owes war reparations to the inhabitants of Gaza.
2. I don't want my tax dollars going to Israel to use to destroy Gaza. Yes, I know that's not exactly why our country is giving the money to Israel. But money is fungible. The money is budgeted elsewhere, freeing up money for Israel to use for other purposes, such as destroying Gaza. Indirectly, my tax dollars are going to a purpose which I disapprove.

They would need to negotiate with Israel per UN Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338. I don't believe they are willing to do that at this point for whatever reason.

and Hamas did not force Israel to do this. Oct 7 was a mere excuse.
electric_blue68
(21,491 posts)But some civilians support Hamas.
And what was Israel supposed to do? I condemn the extreme warring Netanyahoo has done/is doing.
I would have preferred much more ?covert operations of IDF soldiers going after the caches, and groups of Hamas in the tunnels, under hospitals etc instead of massive bombing!
But from their pov that would have endangered too many IDF. Obviously we've seen some of them as well acting in very rouge ways!
I support Israel's right to exist since Jews have lived in that area for millenia, but I can also reject some of their actions as well in regards to the Palestinians.
It's not always easy having sympathy in certain situations for both groups.
iemanja
(56,020 posts)They are clearing out Gaza and killing every last Palestinian. This is about Israels decision to expand as an empire. No country has that right.
How is it that people were outraged when Trump suggested taking over Gaza, but when Israel does it we hear
excuses?

(7,856 posts)From the river to the sea is an Israeli vision for the future. All they needed was an excuse to carry out their end game.

(2,111 posts)no matter how Nazi-like their actions are!
Frankly EVEN THE NAZIS did not intend to completely destroy the countries which they took over...
although they DID intend to completely destroy or drive out any Jews in those countries---
sounds a little like what the Israeli government is trying to do in Gaza---
just substitute Palestinians for Jews and there you have it!
Personally, I don't give a damn about whether anyone is Jewish or not,
I have never harbored any hatred for them as a group, I am indifferent---
VERY sorry for what the Nazis did to them in World War II---
and very sorry to see the Israeli government beginning to resemble what the Nazis did to them.
All the rabid pro-Israel adherents can save their breath,
I am DONE with the government of Israel, and I don't give a a goddamn whether they are JEWISH or not---
They could be Baptists and I would hate them just as much, but not for that reason.
ALL US MILITARY AID TO ISRAEL SHOULD BE CUT OFF!

(36,567 posts)Smotrich doesn't set the policy.
There is no "humanitarian zone" in the south. The south of what? Gaza? Hamas is in 100% of Gaza. He has to mean Sinai, but Egypt is a non-starter. There are no "third countries" that will accept Gazans.

(1,478 posts)A genocide does not have to only be the result of killing. According to the UN definition of it, it also includes "Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction, in whole or in part" In other words, "Intent to destroy".
The Lemkin Institute has put 10 patterns of Genocide. I think some of the them fit what is going on
https://www.lemkininstitute.com/ten-patterns-of-genocide
Also, here is another one from Genocide Watch

The fact is, Netanyahu and the Likud party have people with war crimes in their midst.

A lot of people from Middle Eastern descent have been targeted by ICE so being scared makes sense but, let's face it, Ceasefire Now isn't exactly modeling courage these days. I attend a weekly protest and they never show.
