Nationwide 'No Kings' Protest Planned for Parade on Trump's Birthday

Source: Newsweek

Published May 06, 2025 at 9:38 AM EDT

Activists are coordinating a protest on June 14—Flag Day and President Donald Trump's birthday—targeting a military-style parade planned by the Trump administration. The president has said the parade will be a patriotic tribute, but the "No Kings" group, which is organizing the protest, has described the parade as "a made-for-TV display of dominance for his birthday." Newsweek has contacted the Department of Defense for comment.

Why It Matters

Since Trump returned to office in January, there have been major nationwide protests against his policies. The June 14 event is shaping up as a flash point for tensions between Trump's critics and supporters. Opponents of the planned parade have compared it to authoritarian displays of military power, but the president has defended the value of the "big, beautiful" parade to celebrate the country.

What To Know

The "No Kings" group, along with partners such as Black Voters Matter and the Declaration for American Democracy, is mobilizing volunteers to show up "everywhere Trump isn't—to say no thrones, no crowns, no kings." "Real power isn't staged in Washington," the group said. "It rises up everywhere else."

Planning documents for the parade obtained by the Associated Press call for more than 6,600 soldiers, at least 150 vehicles, 50 helicopters, seven bands and possibly about 2,000 civilians. Defense officials told NBC News that this kind of parade could cost up to $45 million, which Trump said was "peanuts compared to the value of doing it."

and there is even an OP going back to January mentioning it - 50 PROTESTS - 50 STATES - 1 DAY #50501 - 2/5/25 - YOUR STATE CAPITOL

They also have a substack (there is an OP in there that referenced a post in it) - https://substack.com/@50501?

There are no Hosts for that Group who could pin such a thread about them.

I can cross-post a link in there though.

And that money is only a small portion HE is scamming from us. Who really are the losers and suckers? They ain’t me and my fellow veterans and active service. (Except the fools in that bunch that voted for him)

We’ve fallen a long way.

Also, our Capital City is not constructed for tanks, and the damage to roads and other infrastructure would be considerable. As the generals tried to tell trump the last time.

so it keeps "the locals" engaged.

We have primary elections here in PA in a couple weeks so these events are places where speakers can remind people locally TO VOTE (and to tell the attendees to tell their family, friends, neighbors, coworkers to vote).

We (i.e., not literally DUers who are keeping up to date politically) need to stop sitting out primaries, special, and even general elections in off-years.

I believe that people protesting DOES make a difference. It shows that people are paying attention and that they are not happy with what is going on. If no one protested, there would be NO pressure on our politicians to do the right thing. With people coming out every day in communities all across America, it shows that people know what is going on and we are voicing our displeasure. AND, I believe that protests changed the course of the Viet Nam War. They do matter.

I would like to pedal the Tequila Shot and Margarita bike bar. The Mimosa, Mojito, Vodka Collins, and Don Q bike bars should be popular too.

The Donald would probably be proud of promoting new small business ventures like providing parade Refreshments, and maybe have Hegshit and his boys come out to greet us.
