(7,527 posts)Displaying the import fees would have made clear to American consumers that they are shouldering the cost of President Trumps tariff policies rather than China, as he and his top officials have often claimed would be the case.

(444 posts)Anyone with common sense would do this if they ran a business. There is a lot of sticker shock about to come down the pipeline, and I highly doubt these companies will want the blame for it. It is a tax.

(17,747 posts)And most of amazon merch comes from china. So the tarrifs will range from 147% to 175% for most items, or components of them.

Maybe this will make it easier to know nation of origin on their products which often seems hidden or not presented.

(950 posts)Hmm, price transparency is now a "hostile political act" under the dictatorial rule of Kim Jong don so said Karoline Goebbels-Leavitt, Reich Minister of Propaganda and Public Enlightenment. What a collection of disingenuous, prevaricating, lying criminal assholes spewing complete bullshit to try to support a failed and fucked-up, utterly non-workable and totally insane economics tariff plan which only a "fucking moron" could/would believe to be viable. Losers!

(124,999 posts)Are they going after Wal-Mart and Target and every other business that sells imported products and lists the tariff separately? How is that any different from the common practice of listing a state sales tax on a receipt? If you buy something from Amazon now, the state sales tax is listed. Why not the tariff, which is also a sales tax?
Delmette2.0
(4,366 posts)People know what their state and local sale tax is so they know about how much to expect. With the trump tax we won't know how how much of the price is retail and how much is trump tax.
I think listing the trump tax will save the retailers a lot of head aches with customers who have not been paying attention. My guess of the number of unaware citizens is about 1/3 of the population.

They don't want consumers to know why prices are increasing. They are still hoping MAGAts won't find out who is paying tariffs.

(414 posts)"In a statement to the Washington Posts Jeff Stein, Amazon, however, made clear the massive online retailer had no such plans. Amazons statement read, The team that runs our ultra low cost Amazon Haul store has considered listing import charges on certain products. This was never a consideration for the main Amazon site, and nothing has been implemented on any Amazon properties.
