Pope died of a stroke and heart failure, Vatican doctor says

VATICAN CITY, April 21 (Reuters) - Pope Francis died of a stroke and irreversible heart failure, Vatican doctor Andrea Arcangeli said in a death certificate released on Monday for the 88-year-old pontiff.

The certificate, which was published by the Vatican, said the pope had fallen into a coma before his death early on Monday.

I wasn't aware that he had congestive heart failure, a killer in itself, let alone accompanied by a stroke.

I''m a lapsed Catholic, and I don't remember particularly liking any Pope. Until Pope Francis. I loved him!

I hope he stayed alive just long enough to rebuke the Trump Administration.

Rest in peace.

including part of a lung removed as a young man. He said he didn't think he would last so long in the post.

IMHO, he incredibly survived this last illness because he had a few things he needed to do - one was speak truth to power, another was to see his people one more time, and also to celebrate Easter.

He did these things with his remonstration to Vance, a ride round the Vatican square in the popemobile (which amazed me), and celebrating the feast.

Then he was done, and walked on.

I'm not religious, but I am spiritual, and this I strongly believe. I'm not sure if we'll see his like again for a long time, but as he appointed the majority of cardinals during his long reign, we can hope for at least sanity.
