Former Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colo.) reflected on his time in Congress and ultimate decision to resign earlier this year in an interview Monday, saying theres more to life than arguing.
Theres a lot of life out there besides arguing about nothing and telling lies, and so I made a choice to go enjoy what Ive got left, Buck said during an appearance on The Daily Show with host Jon Stewart.
Buck, who announced his retirement from the House in March, explained that he wouldnt follow suit with many of his former colleagues who have pushed President Trumps unsubstantiated claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen.
I left because I couldnt tell the lie, Buck said, when asked by Stewart if he missed Congress or felt as if hed left anything undone. [The] 2020 election wasnt stolen. The Jan. 6 defendants arent political prisoners.

I am really surprised that more members of congress don't say, "That's enough, I'm done." I am frequently reminded of the movie from 1972, The Candidate with Robert Redford and Peter Boyle. It was the most revealing movie about actual politics that I've ever seen and it is as relevant today as it was over 50 years ago.

I especially found The Best Man interesting as some of the political speeches were almost identical to ones we've heard from republicans in recent years. Just change a few words and it's the same republican dogma. Lower taxes, more defense spending, and lots of fearmongering.
