3 Birmingham City Council districts prepare for runoff election

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The city of Birmingham’s municipal runoff election is Tuesday. Three city council seats will be back on the ballot for voters in districts 4, 8 and 9.

For council district 4, the race is between incumbent J.T. Moore and Brian Gunn. In August, Moore received 31.84% of the votes, and Gunn had 41.03%.

In council district 8, April Myers Williams and Sonja Smith are vying for the seat. There were nine candidates for this council seat in August. Current city councilor Carol Clarke did not run for reelection. Williams received 32.18% of the votes in August, and Smith was close behind with 31.75%.

Council district 9 is a race between incumbent LaTonya Tate and John Hilliard. August’s municipal election resulted in 44.54% of votes for Tate and 29.02% for Hilliard.
