(20,391 posts)To be fair they actually piss me off, but the comments do crack me up. He talks about how he and the GOP, whove had a stranglehold on the Governors mansion and the Statehouse for 30 years, are the only ones who can fix whats wrong with Texas. The vast majority of comments tear into the fact that as he and his buddies have had thirty years to fix whats wrong, all of our problems here are their failures.
The bottom line is that they dont want to fix anything; they just want to turn Texas into more of a Gilead than it already is.

Probably need a better gauge using stats that are reliably and more uniformly collected.

(12,769 posts)With 462 violent offenses per 100,000 residents in 2024, according to FBI crime statistics, Missouri is among Americas most violent states. The Show-Me State also ranked in the top 10 for firearm deaths last year. In June, Gov. Mike Kehoe signed a sweeping crime bill aimed at helping to get the situation under control. It includes tougher sentences, a greater ability to charge juveniles as adults, and several new offenses involving cyberstalking and the use of drones.

(12,896 posts)I agree. The crime is bad especially in more populated areas. A lot of poverty both in the city and the rural areas and watch out for those KKK businesses.
But.......I live on a farm surrounded by beauty. The monarch butterfly visits every year. On rainy days the lichens perk up like little gardens.
But Tennessee is always trying to destroy their natural beauty by placing uranium and fertilizer plants right in the middle of the prettiest areas. And watch out for the coming destruction of those water gobbling data centers they are putting up everywhere.
Knoxville has two prominent downtown public statues honoring the 19th Amendment and women's right to vote. Tennessee was liberal in their recent past. It's the out of control gerrymandering that prevents Tennessee from going back to their roots.

(23,163 posts)I mean, it's a little surprising that neither Mississippi nor West Virginia made the list, but most of the ones that are on the list don't surprise me.
I will admit that I was a little surprised to see Utah on here (and ahead of Missouri, Alabama, Oklahoma, AND Arkansas). I wouldn't want to live there myself, but it has some of the most spectacular scenery in the country, including 5 national parks and 8 national monuments. But it sounds like these ratings were based on things that would affect day to day quality of life more.

(2,846 posts)So are all of the western states west of the Great Plains. I don't care what anybody says. The West is the greatest place to live on the face of the earth, politics or not.
The "best" list is largely full of shit and compiled by somebody who has never lived outside the Beltway.
ShazzieB
(23,163 posts)But a survey like this depends on what the ratings are based on, and it says they used things like "crime rates, air quality, healthcare access, worker protections and civil rights laws." I have no idea what any of those things are like in Utah.
Which factors matter the most in choosing a place to live are very subjective anyway. No one ratings scale is going to work for everyone, that's for sure!

(24,645 posts)Republicans have gotten infinite miles out of California and Chicago propaganda, but Dems have rarely used facts about what Republican policies have done to states like Alabama, Tennessee, and Oklahoma. The crime and poverty in these states alone is evidence of the complete failure of Republican policies.
Why should Democratic politicians spare the feelings of Alabama? Their state is a total failure and the people running the state have failed the citizens there. Most of Alabama is an absolute shithole and the people living there deserve better. I'd like to see our next presidential campaign focus on the actual results of Conservatism in these states. Instead of defending CA, let's make them defend what they've done to Tennessee and Arkansas.
