Democratic politician Troy Jackson addressed public criticism regarding his past legislative record and his previous endorsement of former candidate Graham Platner during a television interview on Thursday, as reported by Yahoo.
Jackson filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to potentially replace Platner as the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate after Platner dropped out of the race on Wednesday. The political shift prompted scrutiny from independent voters and media members over Jackson's shifting stances and political associations.
During an MS NOW interview, host Katy Tur confronted Jackson with video footage of an independent voter who expressed a preference for Republican Sen. Susan Collins over him due to his historical opposition to progressive issues.
"Troy Jackson is not progressive. He voted against so many bad things, like gay marriage, abortion. He did that and now wants to say he's progressive." stated independent voter Brent Hawkes.

(336 posts)If he is truly a progressive, why would he prefer Collins? It's not a choice yet between Jackson and Collins. If he truly has progressive views, there are other Democrats that have made noises about running that would fit the bill far better than Collins or Jackson would.

(25,803 posts)You can't explain the kind of contradiction this person professes to embrace with poor information, or really any information at all.
1. Hawkes notes that in the past Jackson voted against certain "bad things" which are typical progressive causes
2. Hawkes opines that Jackson is therefore not as progressive as he claims
3. Hawkes intends to vote for Collins over Jackson or Bellows because Jackson was not progressive enough in the past, and thus will be useless in the future.
That goes well beyond poor information. That is the "thought process" of a melted mind. That is the voice of a solid Collins voter; best case, he's flailing wildly for an excuse to vote for Collins.

(2,391 posts)"Honestly, he is accurate," admitted Troy Jackson, Potential Democratic Senate Replacement. "I voted against those things over 15 years ago. Since then, you know, I've found out, I've understood. I mean, I've always been someone that believes that healthcare is a human right, and it became clear to me after some time that abortion, reproductive rights access is a human right,"
Highlighting his modern alignment with progressive organizations, Jackson noted that his recent legislative actions include earning a perfect voting score from reproductive rights advocacy groups.
I think the voter may have been trying to say that in the past Jackson voted against a bunch of things that a progressive would vote for.

(25,803 posts)#1 is fact, confirmed by Jackson himself. #2 is obviously opinion, fairly harmless in isolation, but it leads somehow to #3, #3 being where the monkey brain gets shunted into its primal lizard core. It's all downhill from there.

Sorry, Hawkes, we need to have serious conversations for this life-or-death election.
