ME-SEN: Dr. Nirav Shah holds first town hall after launching bid for open U.S. Senate nomination
REEPORT, Maine Former Maine CDC Director Dr. Nirav Shah held his first town hall Saturday since announcing his campaign for Maine's open Democratic U.S. Senate nomination.
Speaking to supporters in Freeport, Shah focused on his experience in both state and federal government, highlighting his time leading the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention and later serving as a deputy at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He said that background has prepared him to tackle complex issues in Washington.
"Given the background and the experience I've had in government as an attorney and particularly working on foreign affairs matters, I am well equipped to take on that job and defend the rights of not just Mainers, but people across this country," Shah explained.
Shah also pointed to his second-place finish in this year's Democratic gubernatorial primary as evidence that he has built a statewide network of supporters and can mount a competitive campaign against Republican Sen. Susan Collins, who is expected to seek another term.
