The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) said in a yet-to-be-published proposed rule Friday that its drawing up plans to radically crack down on mail voting by sending ballots only to voters who are registered with the federal government.
The proposed rule, which will be formally published next week, is an alarming step toward implementing President Donald Trumps sweeping attack on mail voting ahead of the 2026 midterm election. And it would represent a massive expansion of federal control over voting, without congressional authorization.

(4,085 posts)HOLY SHIT.
So, let me get this straight ... basically, the fucking PRESIDENT IN POWER gets to deny delivery of a mail-in ballot to any given voter, via a back-door, most likely secret, federal override mechanism, directly through the executive branch's control of the post office?
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME RIGHT NOW?!?
FUCK THIS SHIT!!!

the State relies on US Mail to get the ballots to voters, would need a rethink for Gen Election in fall if this holds.

(4,085 posts)I.E. my understanding is that this is denying SENDING YOU THE BALLOT IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!
Which, if my understanding is correct, is beyond fucked up!!! Trump could literally just flag all Democrats if he wants to. I mean you'd think "no, he can't", but how many freaking times have we all thought that?!?

Tom DeLay was instrumental in the passage of the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act of 2006, which required the U.S. Postal Service to prefund its retiree health benefits for 75 years within a 10-year period. This prefunding requirement has been a significant factor in the financial struggles faced by the USPS.
