(2,025 posts)His misogyny, homophobia, and cozying up to fascists is still on full display every Friday, yet many consider him an astute political commentator and a valid voice of the left. I gave him up during the pandemic when his true colors were fully exposed.

(3,070 posts)You stated His misogyny, homophobia, and cozying up to fascists is still on full display every Friday.
How can you say this if you stopped watching years ago? This seems difficult to reconcile. Which is it?
If you're not watching the show, are you relying on what others tell you? Is so, please name your sources.

RESOLVED: Bill Maher's homophobia is on full display every Friday.
If such a pattern exists, the Affirmative (that would be you) should have no difficulty producing recent examples in which Maher expressed hostility toward gay people or opposition to their equal rights.
Opposing the Affirmative, Abolishinist states:
Maher has supported same-sex marriage for decades, including when it was still a politically controversial position.
He has consistently argued that gay people should have the same legal rights as everyone else.
He has frequently criticized religious and political opposition to homosexuality.
He has had openly gay guests, colleagues, and friends throughout his career without treating homosexuality itself as problematic.
Unlike figures commonly described as homophobic, he does not advocate legal restrictions on gay relationships, marriage, employment, or civil rights.
I watch his show most Fridays, I've never witnessed his 'homophobia'.
Equal time for the "Affirmative" to respond.
Looking forward to an informative 'debate'. Go for it!

(3,070 posts)I'm a huge fan of Neil deGrasse Tyson. We saw him at a live appearance several years ago, he's amazing!
Katy Tur along with Kevin McCarthy should be interesting as well.
And of course, his opening and New Rules are always fun.
