80% of Canadians believe Trump is harming the interests of Americans.
According to a new study by Spark Insights, the vast majority of Canadians agree that President Donald Trump is turning the world against the United States.
80% of Canadians believe Trump is harming the interests and prospects of Americans and turning the world against the U.S. Just 20% think Trump will end up creating good outcomes for Americans.
The impact of Trump on the world combined with the approach and focus of Carney have essentially restructured the political agenda and priority list for Canadians. If theres a sharp dividing line in Canadian politics today, its the difference between northern MAGA voters and the large majority who have an intense dislike of the U.S. President. Only 16% of Canadians have a positive feeling about Trump.

Here's a May 3 link from the Washington Post. He does, as you say, score higher in some other areas.

As for the 250th anniversary, I'm not feeling it. Honestly, we don't have a damn thing to celebrate.

(13,999 posts)Can you imagine the nations he has alienated sharing intelligence? Particularly if keeping the source or nature of the intelligence secret were critical?
No fucking way
And it has long been such information sharing that is FAR more critical to our national security than the "macho-ness" of our military.
I shudder to think about the shit show the NSA and CIA have become.

(13,999 posts)I don't think we ever recovered the lost of trust we suffered when Bush II turned us into torturing pariahs -- particularly since Obama chose to let the torturers in the joint operations off the hook.
Time will tell if we can regain even 50% of the prosperity we have enjoyed as a nation at the forefront of science, as a reliable trade partner and ally, as a leader in humanitarian aid, and on and on.

(13,999 posts)There has also been far too little attention on what the cuts at NSF, NIH, DOE Department of Science, and other criminal impoundments of funds already allocated are doing to science.
One of my clients is the Director of the UW Molecular Engineering Materials Center. He is struggling find the funds to pay grad students already in the program and is unlikely to be able make offers to any new students in the foreseeable future. Their work is major cutting edge stuff and the students in that program are our future. The cuts have affected other acquaintances across departments at the University of Washington, and studies are finding massive brain drain -- not just from the cuts and impoundments, but from the insane attack on foreign students. We are looking at loses that CAN NEVER be replaced. We cannot get these years of training back, just as the losses in education during COVID will never be fully recovered. We can move forward and try to rebuild, but the U.S. is losing people and programs that would have paid dividends in the future.

(4,850 posts)The other 20% must be ingesting hallucinogens for breakfast, or living under rocks. Of course, that 16% of Canadians may well be zombies in thrall to Danielle Smith, Premier of Alberta. She's got so many screws loose that she sounds like bolts in a bucket when she shakes her head. The remaining 4% are still wandering the streets unsupervised, so watch your six!

On edit: Alberta is probably the closest aligned MAGA province in Canada. Why? Oil.

And, speaking of pedophiles, what's so "positive" about them, Traitor, specifically?
And what's so positive about the tariffs hurting American businesses to the point of driving some out of business?

I HATE THIS MAN... but MOST OF ALL i DESPISE AND FEAR THE SUPER-WEALTHY WHO HAVE ENGINEERED THIS ASSASSINATION OF OUR FOREFATHERS' EFFORTS, BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS. Those who slink there in the shadows, feeding it money and allowing it to grow BIGGER and BIGGER and more dangerous, as long as THEY and their wealth is protected.
