(12,787 posts)I am the middle of 5 generations of veterans 2 of my brothers in law severed in Vietnam. Some of us were injured, none killed in combat. But one of my brother in laws died as a result of Agent Orange, the other is suffering from ill effects of that nasty chemical cocktail.
My heart goes out to all the Gold Star families. Their kin gave all, and the pain never really goes away.

(30,375 posts)My Dad, and six of his brothers, were in WWII, stationed in various places. They all came back alive. My Grandfather fought in the Argonne Forest in WWI, knee deep in icy trench water. My ex BIL was in helicopters that were shot down twice in Viet Nam. Came home with two Purple Hearts, a metal plate in his head, and crazy. I've known a couple of guys who had serious health issues from being sprayed by Agent Orange.
These soldiers are, and were, all heroes. trump could never even comprehend duty and honor.
