Continuing, the Vice article on the book notes that it revolves around mainly-male oligarchic predation on teenage girls and that By far the most disgusting aspect of the novel is its fixation on sexualizing adolescents, and its depictions of rape. Even the adult characters in the book are constantly infantilized. The novel is also rife with casually unsettling observations such as: To me, pederasty seems utterly lacking in aesthetic appeal.17
So, Donald Barr, at the time he was headmaster of Dalton and Dalton hired Epstein, the pedophile who hung around flirting with young girls and later ran a massive sex trafficking operation in which mainly male oligarchic elites preyed on young girls, wrote a book about oligarchic elites sadistically preying on young girls. As Vice noted in its article on the book, the connection between Epstein and Barr is flimsy, and any link between Epsteins crimes and the books contents even more so.18 But it is a coincidence.

I thought I could not become more disturbed. I was wrong.

(453 posts)IS IT NOT LONG PAST TIME TO USE THE TERM "CONSPIRACY THEORY" AS A SIMPLE EXPRESSION OF FACT?
BECAUSE, COME ON. THERE'S UNIVERSAL SYNCHRONICITY; THERE'S PLAIN OLD COINCIDENCE; AND THEN THERE'S.....
THE EPSTEIN FILES.
Some crimes are committed, some fortunes are built, some governments are taken over----with long-range planning.
And even more involve two or more perpetrators.
How do so many alleged conspirators not "leak" secrets? A common skeptical question.
When one and/or one's loved ones are threatened, by very powerful people, with complete loss of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; or when, conversely, one is offered financial security beyond dreams---one can easily keep quiet forever.
Especially when one has seen, has been threatened with, AND HAS HIMSELF COMMITTED brutality beyond nightmares.
Now add audio and video recordings with photos, and you've got yourself quite the little Band of Brothers fidelity, there.

Freedom of speech and press does not mean a person writing something like this can not be fired as headmaster.

(19,364 posts)Time Enough For Love. Pretty wild stuff. Also Orphans in the Sky (1963) had some crazy stuff in it, Heinein was a little obsessed with incest and sex with kids. I think Barr may have found "inspiration" from Heinlein.
Eta - I dont remember which one, but not only was tge main character having sex with kids, but they would fatten them up and eat them.

(20,446 posts)About Donald Barr's exit from Dalton School for the NYT archive. It doesn't contain anything salacious, but shows that at the very least, his leaving the school came about under unusual circumstances.
Everyone knows that I am somewhat anachronistic in my views of the educational leadership of a school, Mr. Barr wrote in a letter yesterday to faculty members and parents. I am not comfortable with the definition of board‐head relations that I see becoming current in schools everywhere.
Mr. Barr's resignation, which the board says was not requested and not expected, comes after 10 frequently stormy years as head of Dalton, which is housed in an 11‐story, brick building at 108 East 89th Street.
Question of Authority
The source of conflict between the strong‐minded Mr. Barr and his 20‐member board seemed to center on the question of where the board's authority should yield to the headmaster's judgment. There was apparently no one incident that prompted the resignation, but the confrontation was exacerbated by financial pressures that have forced the school to set priorities.
