Trump asks Supreme Court to allow National Guard deployment in Illinois

WASHINGTON — The Trump administration on Friday asked the Supreme Court to immediately allow for the deployment of National Guard troops in Illinois, alleging they are needed to protect federal agents conducting immigration enforcement.

The move comes in response to lower court rulings that blocked the effort, with the Chicago-based 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday again ruling against the administration.

Solicitor General D. John Sauer, representing the government, wrote in the new filing that federal agents have repeatedly been "threatened and assaulted" in Chicago and the suburb of Broadview, where an immigration facility is located.

Echoing President Donald Trump's stark and harsh language about the situation on the ground, which local leaders strongly contest, Sauer said that federal agencies "have been forced to operate under the constant threat of mob violence."

that caused an ICE thug to fire multiple rounds at the driver of a car that was involved doesn't seem to fit with this description.

I thought (silly me) one could only appeal AFTER a trial was over.

I realize this is not a criminal case but is this normal or is it because Trump is special?

It seems to me this one man has done more than anyone to clog up our judicial system with frivolous lawsuit after frivolous lawsuit.

Last I heard OUR (not Trump’s) DOJ was defending something like 190 lawsuits against this President. How much of OUR money is he freely spending on this foolishness?

Can we puhlease make a law that a future President must reimburse American taxpayers for attorneys fees and court costs everytime he loses? Seems fair to me!

I want my money back!

Not long after losing his bid to deploy the U.S. military in Illinois at the U.S. Circuit Court level, President Donald Trump asked for help from the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS). But he's already running into difficulty in the form of one of his own appointed justices.

Politico legal correspondent Josh Gerstein reported Friday that while the Court has agreed to hear Trump's case and has given the State of Illinois a deadline of 5 PM on Monday to respond to Trump, there's a catch: According to Gerstein, Justice Amy Coney Barrett declined Trump's request of an administrative stay of a lower court order preventing him from deploying troops in Illinois borders.

Trump not getting his immediate administrative stay also notably comes on the day of the October 18 "No Kings" protest. Saturday's gatherings are expected to be even larger than June's demonstrations that brought out an estimated five million people on the same day as Trump's military parade.
