Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with President Donald Trump at the White House on Friday, where the two discussed the ongoing response to the Russian invasion and how to end the war.
CNN's White House correspondent Kristen Holmes said that she found one key piece of the discussion "striking" that harkens back to the infamous Oval Office battle between the two men.
Speaking to the anchors, Holmes said, "The one thing I thought was most striking was this, kind of, moment or several moments in which Zelenskyy seemed to correct President Trump. President Trump would say, 'You know, I spoke to Putin. I think Putin wants peace. I think Putin wants an end to the war.' Zelenskyy says, 'He doesn't want an end to the war. Russia doesn't want an end to the war. We want an end to the war.'"

(20,585 posts)...I imagine having to meet with Trump for ANY reason, let alone one with this much gravity, would be painful to the heart, mind, and soul.

(33,694 posts)I get the feeling that Trump is trying to play it both
ways wihout committing to anything really.
He just can't let go of his need to bargain, not can
he let go of his desire to keep the tomahawks...
while at the same time wanting Zelensky to agree
that Russia wants to end the war.
I don't expect anything whatsoever to change after
this stupid, crazy meeting.

(20,585 posts)I get the same impression, that he's sort of treading water and kicking the can down the road, because even Trump is smart enough to know that FULLY SIDING WITH PUTIN isn't going to be met with universal applause. On the other hand, whatever hold Putin has over him...and we'll probably never know that as long as Trump's breathing...can't be broken.
I think we knew as far back as January, when Trump started his second term (and probably well before that) that Putin is going to do whatever the hell he wants, and that any power Trump BELIEVES he holds over him is a fantasy.
Putin wants NOW what he wanted when he STARTED this. That hasn't changed.

It's either a win-win or a lose-lose for Trump,
and I know what I think..
