Rolling eyes with my wonderful doctor in my red county

Had a regular update with my doc today before SO and I embark on a long European trip (40th anniversary!).

First, the nurse: Me - I want to get a flu and RSV vaccine. Nurse: We can do flu but the Dr is going to have to give you a scrip for the RSV.

Me: really? Nurse: yes, it's getting ridiculous. Dr. is very upset about it all. And can you believe that Florida is stopping vaccine requirements for public schools?

Me: Yes, I've heard that. It's awful. Young nurse: I'm so worried about my kids.

Got my flu shot. Doc comes in (40ish woman):

I'll write you a scrip for the RSV even though the recommendation (60 or over) hasn't changed. I had to write a scrip for a 75 YO patient to get it from Walgreens. No one knows what's going on. We're being led by people with no medical knowledge.

Me: Yeah, a heroin addict with brain worms. Doc: Rolls eyes.

Me: It's ridiculous. It must be so hard for you to deal with. Doc: Rolls eyes. We just don't know what's going to happen. Me: I got a Covid booster last month but it's not the current one. Doc: it's better than nothing.

Finished my appt. Got Rx's for sleeping pills and a Zpack just in case. Doc was excited about our trip.

Got my RSV at Publix, didn't need the scrip.

My take: the medical community doesn't know WTF is going on and are trying to help their patients as best they can. They are already so busy and now have to deal with all this. And for what?

(our Governor Tim Walz has issued a state EO making sure people can still get the covid vax without a prescription), but when I asked the pharmacist whether I would need to get a booster in six months as before, he said he thought that's what the plan would be but he didn't know what would really happen because of Kennedy, and he rolled his eyes.

District invites them in. Standard flu/COVID/RSV/etc. regimen.

I got flu and was recently updated for COVID, could get two vaccines and chose RSV.

It was denied. This was before 11/24. "Huh?" I'd turned 65, and apparently if you were of a certain age you could get it without a prescription; cross that age threshold and it was by prescription only.

That may have just been the pharmacy's/practice's requirements. Dunno.

Internet seems to say that 60 and older, no prescription needed.

FYI- In Florida, you can get the latest COVID vaccine at CVS Minute Clinics. Not any CVS, just the Minute Clinic. The one near me is inside a Target Store.

but the pharmacies can't get their hands on the covid vaccine. The story they get is 'you'll get it in 2 weeks' . That is what they have been told for 2 months now.

"Two weeks", isn't that what Trump always says for whatever his brain fart de jour is?

Yes, they are. Individual docs, nurses, pharmacists, and their assistants are the heroes of this total screwup and if we avoid a COVID or other pandemic, it will be because of them.

Last week I could get flu and Prevnar (pneumonia) vax during my annual physical but not COVID in Cal. Nurse said that there was so much in flux that they don’t know what to do at this point.

So I just made an appointment online to get it at a CVS inside a Target where I’ve received all my COVID boosters. It’s always been a breeze at that location. I’m not 65 which is the threshold for the new vax they offer but they let me make the appointment. We’ll see what happens when I get there. I have a feeling it won’t be a problem.
