Trump concerned S. Korean arrests could 'frighten' investors

President Donald Trump on Sunday said foreign workers sent to the United States are "welcome" and he doesn't want to "frighten off" investors, 10 days after hundreds of South Koreans were arrested at a work site in Georgia.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, the 79-year-old Republican wrote: "I don't want to frighten off or disincentivize investment."

Some 475 people, mostly South Korean nationals, were arrested at the construction site of an electric vehicle battery factory, operated by Hyundai-LG, in the southeastern US state of Georgia on September 4.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials alleged South Koreans had overstayed their visas or held permits that didn't allow them to perform manual labor.

When you have a multi-billion dollar plant that will employ 8,500 people and pump billions of dollars, and create thousands more jobs, into several states, you don't wreck it over a minor issue. This represented a 21 billion dollar investment when you consider all the support plants needed to feed this huge plant.
So the electric vehicle plant is open, but the battery plant isn't because of the ICE raid. Can't run and electric vehicle without the batteries.

It's ironic that Trump said the following:
"Money is pouring in. We want to keep it that way"

As usual, Trump demonstrated his inability to lead.

475 Korean workers can, if the necessary demands and conditions are met, be replaced.

A $2.3 billion factory that the owners deem a high risk, and will thus be either shut down or relocated to another state? THAT will not be coming back.

Yeah, sure - the labor cost would be higher, but the plant would be respected.
