President Donald Trump said billionaire George Soros should be in jail as he continued to threaten the 95-year-old philanthropist and Democratic mega-donor.
The president has baselessly accused the Hungarian-born Holocaust survivor and founder of the nonprofit Open Society Foundation of funding protesters and demonstrations against his administration.
Were going to look into Soros, because I think its a RICO case against him and other people, Trump said Friday on Fox & Friends as he referenced his demand that Soros be prosecuted for racketeering.
Because this is more than like protests, he said. This is real agitation.

So this is the Orbán playbook.

A week later, the president seemed to go into a bit more detail this week. NBC News reported:
Trump said on Truth Social this morning that billionaire philanthropist George Soros and his son Alex Soros should be charged with racketeering. George Soros, and his wonderful Radical Left son, should be charged with RICO because of their support of Violent Protests, and much more, all throughout the United States of America, Trump wrote. ... Its unclear what protests Trump, who has repeatedly attacked the Soros family, was referring to or what prompted his post.
In the same online missive, Trump also wrote, in a message directed at a friend of Soros, Be careful, were watching you!....
Im reminded of an important observation The New York Times made in March: Mr. Trump and his allies are aggressively attacking the players and machinery that power the left, taking a series of highly partisan official actions that, if successful, will threaten to hobble Democrats ability to compete in elections for years to come.
The evidence to bolster the point isnt hard to find. After all, in recent months, the Trump administration has targeted leading Democratic officials the president doesnt like; its also opened an investigation into Media Matters, which came on the heels of Trump directing the Justice Department to investigate ActBlue, the Democratic Partys most important fundraising platform, all while targeting prominent Democratic supporters.
Now, abandoning subtlety about his authoritarian vision, Trump is calling for a leading progressive donor to be charged with racketeering, based on nothing whatsoever, sticking to the tyrants playbook about how to deal with political opposition.
Back in 2018, a good friend ran for District Attorney in my county. Another good friend helped him go through the interview process with a Soros affiliated group to get funding. It took three or four meetings but my friend was funded by the Soros affiliate and won.
I expect to see a nasty fight this cycle with Soros coming up.

(8,099 posts)to his regime, there are templates he employs to get his DOJ to prosecute.
First, we recently saw the "mortgage fraud" template. Anytime he runs into someone he wants to remove, and he looks up the record and finds nothing, if they have two homes he'll cry "mortgage fraud." Tie them up in a court fight, which he pays for with the People's money.
The latest template is "RICO violations." More than one opponent has been accused of this. That's a big court fight, and he gets to use the DOJ. Not a penny out of his pocket.
He has the "defamation" template to use against the MSM. More than one has settled to get him off their backs.
He has put in place the "Charlie Kirk" template to keep anybody at all who has negative things to say, which implies negative things about his regime, silent. This has enabled him to cannonize CK and connect his alleged shooter to trans people and a phobia against them. It keeps the narrative on the anti left and appeals to his base of bigoted, antigay people. He's trying to retain his base, who are or are going to feel his insane economic and health policies.
He is way out of his depth and the American people are starting to rebel against all his policies. He deals in fear, and this latest ploy to put a 95-year-old rich guy in jail for his opposition is just more shit-flinging garbage from the Orange Pedophile.
Disgusting.

Six months later, that problem is spectacularly worse. www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddo...
President Trump and his top advisers threatened on Monday to unleash the power of the federal government to punish what they alleged was a left-wing network that funds and incites violence, seizing on Charlie Kirks killing to make broad and unsubstantiated claims about their political opponents.
The report added that while the motive in Kirks slaying is still under investigation, and law enforcement officials have said that the suspected shooter acted alone, the president and several of his top allies suggested that the suspect was part of a coordinated movement that was fomenting violence against conservatives, without presenting evidence that such a network existed.
Trump and his team have been unsubtle in recent days about their vision. Hours after Kirks death, the president delivered Oval Office remarks in which the Republican not only lashed out at the left, he also vowed that his administration will find each and every one of those who contributed to this atrocity, and to other political violence, including the organizations that fund it and support it.....
Deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, for example, promised to bring the resources of the federal government to bear against what he described as terrorist networks, adding that he believes there are liberal organizations that constitute a vast domestic terror movement that the administration intends to dismantle through a variety of federal agencies and departments......
In case this isnt obvious, the White House could be using this opportunity to lower the temperature, reduce tensions and avoid a potentially incendiary blame game. Instead, its pointing to a vast conspiracy that doesnt appear to exist, using a shooting death as a pretense to launch a multifaceted federal campaign against political opponents of the president.
The New York Times noted in March that Trump and his allies are aggressively attacking the players and machinery that power the left, through a series of highly partisan official actions. Six months later, that problem is accelerating.
