Kirk is the newest McCarthy movement

I think that's what I'm seeing people reflect. It's the test by which you will be punished if you don't think he was the best thing since sliced white bread.

as a catalyst to clamp down on speech and to stifle opposition.
Look at how over the weekend people like Miller and Loomer were leading the charge to use the DOJ to go after left leaning organizations and funding. Look at them bragging about how many people they doxxed and lives they tried to ruin for making opinions. Look at Hegesth bragging about how many people he tossed in the military simply because they exercised their right of speech. This could easily be far worse than what happened with McCarthy.

was brought up earlier.

I was a little too young to remember it directly, except
for the drills when we had to duck under our desks in
case of a nuke strike. That was weird all right.

But in college, we studied it in American History class.
We read Frederick Lewis Allen on the Big Red Scare,
an excellent book and very interesting.

In the early sixties, John Steinbeck wrote a book called
Russia and the Russians to counteract it a bit, and that
was excellent too.

At some point, I also watched John Henry Faulk's great
film, Fear on Trial, starrting George C Scott and William
Devane, also excellent.

What was it Santayana said, to paraphrase -- If we don't
remember the past, we are condemned to repeat it.
